Ash’s review of Firewalker (Stormwalker, Book 2) by Allyson James
Paranormal Romance published by Berkley 02 Nov 10
So, I went back to read my review of Stormwalker (I read too many books to remember what I thought of them), and I was surprised to see I didn’t love it, because I was only able to put Firewalker down to sleep. I was totally immersed in this book.
With this book, Allyson James has seemed to be able to do many things that I find a lot of authors can’t. At least according to my personal opinion. Janet now has massive power, more power than some of the scariest beings she knows. It’s a struggle for her to overcome the darkness within her. I never felt she’s being annoying, whiny, or untrue to herself. Janet stays Janet while still learning and growing. She doesn’t do stupid things, she is able to ask for help, and she’s basically the perfect urban fantasy (still don’t consider this romance) heroine to me.
There is also more Mick, her sexy dragon lover. Mick and Janet are great together, and their relationship grows as well. A big conflict in their relationship seems to have been resolved, and I am happy for that. They still have a strong spark and lots of tension between them that keeps the romance feeling fresh after two books. Since it is labeled as romance, my only complaint is that I want more scenes with them together.
This book is pretty much non-stop action, and even when it’s not, it’s still exciting. Allyson James handles the multiple story lines perfectly. I wasn’t left with unanswered questions, except the ones I am supposed to be left with, and everything got its fair share of page space (except maybe Nash, I definitely want more of him). The pacing of Firewalker is just what it should be, and I wish it hadn’t taken me so long to read it.
I also just want to mention that I love that the rest of the characters are important, to Janet and to the story. They aren’t just background decorations and they each stand out. I enjoy every one of them.
