This month, the first book in Alison Kent’s Smithson Group (SG-5) series, will be reissued as a mass market paperback. Along with the expected new cover, the book formerly known as The Bane Affair has now been titled At Risk. At Risk will be available exclusively at Walmart.
The Summary:
Christian Bane is a man of few words, so when he talks, people listen. One of the Smithson Group’s elite force, Christian’s also the walking wounded, haunted by his past. Something about being betrayed by a woman, then left to die in a Thai prison by the notorious crime syndicate Spectra IT gives a guy demons. But now, Spectra has made a secret deal with a top scientist to crack a governmental encryption technology, and Christian has his orders: Pose as Spectra boss Peter Deacon. Going deep undercover as the slick womanizer will be tough for Christian. Getting cozy with the scientist’s beautiful goddaughter, Natasha, to get information won’t be. But the closer he gets to Natasha, the harder it gets to deceive her. She’s so alluring, so trusting, so completely unexpected he suspects someone’s been giving out faulty intel. If Natasha isn’t the criminal he was led to believe, they’re both being played for fools. Now, with Spectra closing in, Christian’s best chance for survival is to confront his demons and trust the only one he can . . . Natasha . . .

The Contest: You often see books being reissued with new updated covers, but new titles? Not so often. To enter the contest, tell me another book that was published first under one title, then another. Alternately, you can give the name of a book that was turned into a movie, with a new title. Be sure to include both titles. I’m really curious to see what folks think of. The only thing I could think of was The Boyfriend School by Sarah Bird, which I became familiar with as a movie called Don’t Tell Her It’s Me with Shelley Long, Jami Gertz and the Goot. I can still remember the theme song. In a fascinating twist, I later saw it re-run as The Boyfriend School.
*CLOSED–So, one book/story, two titles. Educate and amaze us. Contest closes Friday, June 6 at noon (PST). Good Luck!!
Please don’t enter me in the contest 😀 though I do have an answer. Suzanne Brockmann’s Team 10 book, It Came Upon a Mignight Clear was re-released something like seven years later with her original title, Hawken’s Heart.
Catherine Coulter’s The Heir was originally Lord Deverill’s Heir. Not a big difference but there is a difference.
“Confessions of a Teenage Zombie Queen” is now, officially retitled, “YOU ARE SO UNDEAD TO ME”. This was done while still in the making stages, though.
Ally Blake’s The Billionaire Bachelor
becomes How to Marry a Bachelor. Again, before in print.
Book to movie~ Taming of the Shrew (Shakespeare) was made into the movie “10 Things I Hate About You”
I remember reading one, but I can’t think of the title.
I did a search and found this one.
RISEN GLORY 1984 now JUST IMAGINE by Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Hannah Howell’s Promised Passion has been reissued as Highland Wedding.
EVELYN WAUGH’S satiric novel ”Vile Bodies” became “Bright Young Things” as a movie.
The Samms Agenda is now In Danger by Alison Kent; (can’t blame me for trying can you!1)
Sometimes the Harlequin Presents are published in the US and the UK under different titles. One from Susan Stephens is very different from one country to the other. In the US it is called The Tycoon’s Virgin and in the UK it is called Dirty Weekend.
The thing Maureen mentioned about the UK and US having different titles for the same book also played out with the first Harry Potter book. In the UK it was Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and in the US it was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
But, my real entry is going to be from a book/play to a movie. The Shakespeare play “Othello” was turned into the movie “O” whose release was delayed because it was slated for release the summer after the Columbine shootings and the studio pushed it back because of the violence.
Lisa Jackson’s “Intimacies” has been reissued as “Final Scream.”

The movie “The 13th Warrior” was actually the book “Eaters of the Dead” by Stephen King. Another book by Stepehn King call “Cycle of the Werewolf” was made into a movie called “Silver Bullet”.
Another American/UK title is Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander/Crosstitch.
