The only real question is will she bring her cape?
I promise I will try my best to keep them in line but really people, I am only one person!

Totally and completely off topic but… I love that you now have a mobile version of your site available that comes up when I hit your site with my Treo. However, the section on the mobile page that should display recent posts displays a fatal error. Specifically, the error message is:
Just consider me your friendly website beta tester. 🙂
Melanie, I left a message on Dear Author about you reading ebooks on your Treo. I have a Treo and I’m getting ready to go on a trip and have a couple of questions for you. Would you mind emailing me at RnG1180 at aol dot com ? Thanks.
Melanie – try it now and see if it works okay.
That fixed it. Thanks! Have I mentioned how much I appreciate a mobile version? I tend to surf on my phone with images off to speed things along but this is easier still. I did try to reply to the post via the phone but it didn’t post – however, I suspect that’s an issue with the browser I’m using and not this site.
Melanie – I too love the mobile versions. I wish more people would do it. do you think the mobile version should not have graphics? I keep wondering about that.
I’m of two minds about adding graphics to the mobile version. (There’s a surprise – I always have two points or opinions about everything.) On the one hand, I do prefer surfing with images on – it makes for a better experience, especially on sites where images are used for navigation or form submission and said images do not include an alt tag. On the other, images really slow down the page load time. On a mobile site, the images are generally resized (byte-wise) and small enough to not affect the page load terribly but there’s just not a whole lot of mobile friendly sites out there yet.
I would love to see a mobile browser that would let me define on a site by site basis (via bookmarks/favorites) whether to load images or not but, since that’s not an option with any of the browsers I’ve used, then by default I surf with images off. This means if a mobile site has images and I want to see them all, then I have to turn them back on and reload the page. But then when I leave that site and go to another page, I’ll have to remember to turn images back off first.
I use Opera mini which does a great job of reformatting the page for the phone (by running it through one of their servers I believe) and on sites with images, I can always tap the square where the image belongs to view it – that works out as a pretty good compromise.
So, I suppose I’ve talked myself around to an opinion. 🙂 Adding images to mobile pages is a good thing overall, if they’re sized for speed in loading and a smaller screen. If we surf with images off, nothing’s lost and if we prefer to surf with images on, then we get a richer experience viewing the site.
