REVIEW: For the Love of Jazz by Shiloh Walker

Sandy M's review of For the Love of Jazz by Shiloh Walker
Contemporary Romance published by Samhain 25 Nov 08
This is my monthly open-a-drawer-and-see-what-you-find read. Ever since I read and reviewed Ms. Walker's The Missing, I've wanted to read something else by her, so when I pulled this book out of the drawer, I put all the others that came before it back for another day. I have to let you know, though, my copy of this book is from 2004. It has since been republished by Samhain and it has been revised and expanded, according to their website. 'Course, didn't know that until just now, but I'm assuming the gist of the book is the same and I'm hopefully not missing anything super critical. At least I hope so. Read more

Romantic Suspense released by Berkley Trade 3 Feb 09
Suspense was one of my first book crushes. It is really rather shocking I didn't fall into reading romantic suspense right away or that I don't do more of it now. I think it falls under 'too many books too little time' and that I have found too few authors I think do it really well. Or it could be I have gotten seriously jaded in my old age and find most of it too hard to believe. And at the same time, I almost didn't pick up Fragile to read because it sounded too depressing. I am just all sorts of shades of difficult like that. Read more

I liked C2's idea of a Best of 2008 list. Then Liv got into the action, so thought I'd give it a try too. (Of course, mine are the best of the bunch.) I was never one to keep track of my reads, and 2008 was the first time I've done that; therefore, this list, though difficult to choose just a few in the long run, was easy for me since I didn't have to rely on a twelve-month memory.
So here's my Best of 2008, in no particular order.

Contemporary Paranormal Romance published by Berkley Trade 4 Nov 08
Wow. I tried to think of some way to start this review and I ran through the story again in my head. Once I did that, all that ever came to me again was, "Wow." I've really only read a few of this author's books before this one, but I can safely say without a doubt that Shiloh Walker has outdone herself with this book.

Historical Erotic Romance Anthology released by Berkley Trade 5 Aug 08
Private Places gathers together four talents in erotic romance for a strong anthology. Each has a different style and theme, but all but one fit together well. Walker’s is a nice palate-cleanser. Only one of the novellas disappointed me, though I’m sure there are many who would enjoy it.

Contemporary Paranormal Romance eBook released by Ellora's Cave 1 Sep 08
This is a book full of love, romance, friendship, pain, and a host of emotions. We've heard the concept before -- dying woman asks best friend to love and take care of her husband when she's gone -- but Ms. Walker definitely gives us a few twists to test that love and romance, throws a little of the paranormal in to complicate an already tenuous situation, and gives us pause to doubt a happily ever after is imminent.
