DDS REVIEWS: The MacCarrick Brothers Trilogy by Kresley Cole

Duckies Do SeriesGwen's reviews of The MacCarrick Brothers Trilogy by Kresley Cole
Historical romances released by Pocket April 2005 - May 2007

Rowrrr! Can you say "alpha males"? I knew you could! This is a very fun, very sexy historical series from one of my fav authors. It features three brothers who think they're cursed to be alone and lonely, otherwise they'll risk their mates' death. Of course, this is all based on a Book of Fates that prognosticates the demise of their loves, as well as some anecdotal evidence. Problem is, the last stanza of the poem/fate is obscured by blood and may very well obviate the curse. So what do they decide? Well, of course, rather than risking someone they love, they choose to be alone. That is, until the mighty MacCarrick johnsons start speaking louder than the curse, then all bets are off and you better lock up your virgin daughters 'cause these brawny Scots are on the prowl! August 10, 2008

faye.jpgGwen's reviews of three completely different books by Eloisa James, Noelle Mack, and Kresley Cole
Historical Romance, Contemporary Erotica, and Contemporary Paranormal Romance

I read books all the time, squeezing a couple of pages in every chance I get - eating lunch, in line at the bank, while I'm on hold - but I don't always review every book. Below you'll find three books that I read but, for whatever reason, I didn't want to do a full-blown review. So read on for three short reviews of three completely different books:

~ Desperate Duchesses by Eloisa James
~ Nights In Black Leather by Noelle Mack
~ Dark Desires After Dusk by Kresley Cole

Review: Karma Girl by Jennifer Estep

    July 14, 2008

Karma Girl by Jennifer EstepLiviania’s review of Karma Girl (Bigtime #1) by Jennifer Estep
Paranormal romance released by Berkley 1 May 07

Shannon C. told me I should read Jennifer Estep when I admitted to be a comics sort of girl. I believe I now owe her, because Karma Girl is fabulous and impossible for me not to like. Estep knows comics and it makes her novel that much more joyful. It might be impossible to not be happy when reading Karma Girl, because the author obviously had fun when writing it. Read more

Review: Immortals: The Calling by Jennifer Ashley

    April 21, 2008

Immortals: The Calling by Jennifer AshleyShannon C.'s review of Immortals: The Calling (Book 1) by Jennifer Ashley
Contemporary paranormal romance released by Love Spell 1 May 07

I knew about the Immortals multi-author series by Jennifer Ashley, Robin T. Popp and Joy Nash for quite some time, but I've been hesitating to read the books for one major reason. I'm a geek, and in high school I used to play table-top role-playing games. My favorites were the games put out by White Wolf, which happen to have titles like "Vampire: The Masquerade," "Werewolf: The Apocalypse," or "Changeling: The Dreaming." Every time I saw the Immortals books featured somewhere, I invariably thought of those White Wolf games and I told myself that if I ever read them, I would invariably have to stop and ponder what clan, bloodline or gifts the characters would have.

Okay, so that's the lamest reason ever for being hesitant to try a new series. But I was intrigued by the shared world thing that these three authors have going, and I figured it would be a way to try a few new authors so that I could see if I'd like any of their books.

    Review: Curveball by Kate Angell

    April 15, 2008

Curveball by Kate AngellLawson's review of Curveball by Kate Angell
Contemporary romance single-author anthology released by Lovespell 29 May 07

Ah, the Boys of Summer. America's Pastime and sexy men in uniforms. Curveball has that in threes, with Psycho, Romeo and Chaser. Baseball players have some strange nicknames, don't they? Not that it takes anything away from this cute romance about these power hitters and the women they come to love. This is the second in a series about players of the fictional Richmond Rogues, focusing on the "Bat Pack", the three power hitters and some apparent major league hotties . . . Read more

Review: Immortals: The Darkening (Book 2) by Robin T. Popp

    April 7, 2008

Immortals: The Darkening (Book 2) by Robin T. PoppSandy M's review of Immortals: The Darkening (Book 2) by Robin T. Popp
Contemporary Paranormal Romance published by Love Spell on May 29, 2007

Two books down, two to go. And I'm still very happy with this series. Even with a different author this time around, the intensity of the characters and the storyline are still intact while the story moves forward at a quick and interesting pace. I enjoyed this book just as much as I did the first, The Calling by Jennifer Ashley.

Review: Immortals: The Calling (Immortals, Book 1) by Jennifer Ashley

    February 27, 2008

Immortals: The Calling (Immortals, Book 1) by Jennifer AshleySandy M's review of Immortals: The Calling (Immortals, Book 1) by Jennifer Ashley
Contemporary paranormal romance released by Love Spell 1 May 07

I love a book that gives me a little bit of everything and a lot of romance thrown in between. Therefore, I love this book. And if the rest of the series is this freakin' good, I'm going to be loving all four of the current books and the four to be released this year and into 2009. Three of today's best paranormal authors are behind this action-packed series, Jennifer Ashley, Joy Nash, and Robin T. Popp. They each had to have one hell of a good time in writing these books.

Review: Karma Girl by Jennifer Estep

    July 11, 2007

Karma Girl by Jennifer EstepLawson's review of Karma Girl by Jennifer Estep
Paranormal romance released by Berkley 1 May 07

I had not realized how remiss the the duckies were when I did a little digging through the reviews and saw we have not, in fact, posted a review of Karma Girl. Which is a travesty (since I read it and it is quite cute) to be sure. Or at least something needs to be done, like oh, I don't know, write a review. :)
