This is the first book by Ms. Day that I have read. I know I’ve said this before, but short stories are a really good way to get a feel for authors and their writing style. Ms. Day’s books are ones that I’ve been wanting to try for a while so when this one became available, I wanted to see if I would like her writing.

In this story, Nicole works as a lingerie designer at Satin Seduction. She is a full-figured woman. She goes to the Jake, the CEO of the company to present some designs for a new line that she would like to start at the company. Jake has been attracted to Nicole for some time so when she comes to him with this new idea Jake agrees to here her presentation but only if she models her designs for him. Nicole has had the hots for Jake but thinks he couldn’t possibly be attracted to her. She was engaged to man who constantly made her aware of her size. Jake wants to make sure she that he likes her just the way she is.

These are two fantastic characters. Nicole, despite the emotional abuse by her ex-fiancé is still a confident and vibrant woman. Jake does make her a little nervous at first and in the beginning she does question his attraction to her, but Jake is a guy every woman should have around. He quickly became one of my favorite heroes in the books I’ve read this year.

I really enjoyed this story and I’m going to be looking for more from Ms. Day.

Jake has wanted Nicole since he bought the company and he isn’t going to let this opportunity pass. Their modeling session turns passionate but he doesn’t want just one night — he wants forever. And he wants Nicole confident and eager. To accomplish that, Jake must rebuild Nicole’s self image.

How can Jake show this woman how beautiful he finds her? Sometimes pictures speak louder than words. Especially naughty pictures. Cameras don’t lie, though beauty is more than skin deep.

I had high hopes for this book. It started out quite well in the first chapter, a good storyline and interesting characters, some great flashbacks to fill in the characters’ history. It was when I was just a little way into chapter two that it all fell apart for me.

Savage is definitely an alpha male, a shapeshifter who’s ashamed of his feral half, especially because he scared Alaya on their wedding night when his passion for her forced his shifting. And because he’s also a sensitive man and he loves his young wife, he stays away for three years, giving her time to grow up. He’s decided to finally go to her again when he learns her home has been attacked, so he rushes to her without thought or rest after a month-long mission. So far, so good.

To his relief Savage finds Alaya alive and unharmed, something not afforded the other people held hostage by Alegra pirates. This is where the story goes downhill. It’s the sex scenes. Savage decides he has to have his wife now while hostages are being tortured and raped. He’s waited three years, but he can’t restrain himself for a couple more days. And the descriptions of those scenes left me rolling my eyes with the silliness they invoked and the dialogue was inane. There was a couple of good spots, but that’s not saying much when ninety-eight percent of the chapter is one long sexfest. And the way Savage initiated Alaya into sex was a little callous to me.

The rest of the book that had nothing to do with sex was good, which wasn’t much because of the length of the story, but what there was of it I liked. There was a twist or two that worked very well, but even those were overshadowed by more alpha lovin’ that just didn’t cut it.

I thought this book was right up my alley because of the shapeshifting. Little did I know that there just wasn’t a whole lot of shifting going on.
