Rowrrr! Can you say "alpha males"? I knew you could! This is a very fun, very sexy historical series from one of my fav authors. It features three brothers who think they're cursed to be alone and lonely, otherwise they'll risk their mates' death. Of course, this is all based on a Book of Fates that prognosticates the demise of their loves, as well as some anecdotal evidence. Problem is, the last stanza of the poem/fate is obscured by blood and may very well obviate the curse. So what do they decide? Well, of course, rather than risking someone they love, they choose to be alone. That is, until the mighty MacCarrick johnsons start speaking louder than the curse, then all bets are off and you better lock up your virgin daughters 'cause these brawny Scots are on the prowl! I have found another author to glom. I have never read Jill Shalvis before this and I think I've been missing some great reads. I had an immediate response to her characters, especially her hero, the action is nearly nonstop, and the romance and the emotion is to die for. Smart and Sexy is one satisfying read.

Okay, so the title and cover of this book are pretty much the reason so many people scoff at Harlequins. But the blurb called to that part of me that still obssesses over "My So-Called Life", that secretly adores "A Walk to Remember," that can listen to "Bad Reputation" by Freedy Johnston over and over again. I just can't get enough star-crossed, teenage bad boy/good girl love. This book started off as cheesy goodness, but deteriorated with a tired and predictable plot.

Historical romance published 3 Apr 07 by St. Martin's
Fayne Carlisle's father died just days ago, leaving the title and everything that goes with it in his hands. He hopes that includes his father's last mistress, Lady Kilby Fitchwolf. It was in her boudoir that the old duke's heart gave out, collapsing him in the arms of the young beauty. Now that Fayne has seen her, he wants her in his bed, thinks of nothing else, and is quite flabbergasted when the woman declines his advances.

This historical romance is set in the 1760's, primarily in Yorkshire, England and a wee bit in London. The hero is an everyman named Harry Pye. I know, I know... I died laughing, too, when I first read that name - and EVERY TIME I READ IT I snicker (sorry, Elizabeth - it is my inner Beavis & Butthead and not the "real" me). Read more

A&S takes place in the Scottish lowlands four years after the Jacobites were routed at Culloden, roughly 30-years before our own Revolution. The main characters are an Earl, his wife, and their stablehand. This book is more love story than historical - which suits me just fine - and has elements of family intrigue as well as a glimpse into what life must have been like for Highlanders after the Rising.

I generally have a song or five running through my head and often times people or things (like books) get associated to music.
For me, it is very rare that I can think of Jennifer Estep or Karma Girl and not have this song pop into my head. In fact for a while I thought the name of the first book WAS Bigtime.
just thought I would share *g*

Let me just start by saying I LIKED THIS BOOK! Perhaps not as much as Moning's Beyond the Highland Mist, my fav historical (okay okay, semi-historical) novel to date, but it was a close second. If you haven't read this (originally published by Leisure Books in 1992), then you should catch it now in the reprint. It is a rarity in the romance world: a hero and heroine who have a clue... most of the time.
