REVIEW: On His Knees by Beth Williamson

book cover Limecello’s review of On His Knees (Private Lives, Book 1) by Beth Williamson
Contemporary erotic romance released by Samhain Publishing on 1 May 09

Although I read the blurb for On His Knees, I was still a little surprised at the content. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it very much, and will definitely look into more of Beth Williamson’s books. Also, yes, this cover. *cringe* Sometimes, it’s better to see the book blurb without the cover image; this is one such case. At least, for me, it’s not a selling point. read more…

REVIEW: His Cavalry Lady by Joanna Maitland

Book CoverLiviania‘s review of His Cavalry Lady (Aikenhead Honors, Book 1) by Joanna Maitland
Historical romance released by Harlequin Historical 1 Mar 09

What’s this?  A Harlequin Historical review by someone other than Wendy the Super Librarian?  Could it really be?  I must admit, I don’t pick up much historical fiction. It’s not my favorite genre.  (I should note that I evaluate Romancelandia different from standard history.)  But I’ve really wanted to read a couple of the recent HH releases, because their summaries hit my buttons.  This one had cross-dressing and Russians.  Cross-dressing!  Russians!  Tell me you don’t want that in your Regency! read more…

REVIEW: The Legend of the Werestag by Tessa Dare

book coverC2’s review of The Legend of the Werestag by Tessa Dare
Historical Paranormal Romance novella published by Samhain 12 May 09

What happens when you combine a house party, unrequited love, and a mythical creature? Why, you get Tessa Dare’s new novella, The Legend of the Werestag, of course. I had been hearing (reading?) raves about this story all over the interwebs so I knew I had to read it. And I wasn’t disappointed – it totally lived up to the hype. read more…

REVIEW: When His Kiss Is Wicked by Kaitlin O’Riley

Book CoverLawson’s review of When His Kiss Is Wicked by Kaitlin O’Riley
Historical romance released by Zebra 1 Apr 09

Kaitlin O’Riley was a surprise find for me when I read her first book, Secrets of a Duchess. Her second book, One Sinful Night, was an emotional read and made O’Riley a must read for me. O’Riley’s third book starts a new series of five sisters in London. Collette Hamilton is the oldest of the five Hamilton sisters, who are running their father’s bookstore after he has passed on. read more…

REVIEW: The Border Lord by Sophia James

Book Cover Wendy the Super Librarian‘s review of The Border Lord by Sophia James
Historical romance released by Harlequin Historical 1 May 09

While I know some readers who can’t get enough Scottish historicals, I am not one of them. Oh sure, I like them, but only occasionally. As a pallet cleanser if you will. I picked up Sophia James’ latest because I was ready for another Scottish historical, I love discovering new Harlequin Historical writers, and I’m a complete and total sucker for the marriage of convenience trope. Unfortunately, after a bang-up first half, I found the second half of this novel to be muddled with too much external conflict. read more…

REVIEW: Desire Untamed by Pamela Palmer

Book CoverGwen’s review of Desire Untamed (Feral Warriors, Book 1) by Pamela Palmer

DDS REVIEWS: The Bridesmaid Chronicles by Kendall, Adams, and Kenner

Duckies Do SeriesSandy M’s review of The Bridesmaid Chronicles by Karen Kendall, Kylie Adams, and Julie Kenner
Contemporary Romances released by Signet Jun-Sep 2005

I’ve had this series for a while, thinking I’d get to it soon, but, of course, never doing so. My 16-year-old niece visited me last month, the niece who, unfortunately, doesn’t want anything to do with reading, the niece I’ve been trying to get interested in reading a number of times during those sixteen years. The niece who actually picked up a book while in my home during her visit, actually read it, liked it, and shocked the heck out of me. Then she wanted to read this series. So I told her if she’d hang on, I’ll get the series read and reviewed, and then it’s hers for the taking. The series actually started out well and I thought my niece would also enjoy it. But my enjoyment didn’t last long. I’m hoping hers lasts longer. read more…
