Sandy M’s review of White-Hot Hack (Kate & Ian, Book 2) by Tracey Garvis-Graves
Contemporary Romance published by Amazon Digital Services 07 Jun 16

It definitely bears repeating that Tracey Garvis-Graves is a favorite author of mine, since I read her first book, On the Island, which released back in 2012. Every book she’s written since then has been terrific, and now Kate and Ian have become a favorite couple in romance for me.

After having gone through the trauma of Ian’s death – faked death – they are trying to live as normally as possible, with new names in a new place, while not worrying too much that hackers from Ian’s past will rear their ugly heads when least expected. He’s trying to get a new business up and running, but Kate knows he’s really not happy if he’s not in the midst of taking down bad guys. And if he’s going to do that, Kate wants in too, because while married life is great, their boredom of everyday life will take them both down. They need excitement outside the bedroom to make life worthwhile for them. Ian needs his old task force and Kate needs more than being a homemaker. Things are definitely about to get exciting.

Ian begins to train Kate how to infiltrate and hack in other ways than on a computer. Their working together creates such fun as they get lax employees in trouble over and over again. Quick thinking and never panicking always gets them free and clear to let businesses know where their weak spots are. The fact that they’re both so charming and disarming not only gets people in trouble, it endears them to the reader more than ever before. The humor in their working together is infectious. I found myself waiting for their next assignment to see what they’d do next.

Of course, there’s the one hacker who doxed Ian in the previous book and won’t give up getting his revenge. You’re on the edge of your seat the whole time Ian and Kate try to keep one step ahead. And Ian’s first priority is keeping Kate safe, no matter what, as he promised her father he would do. He takes that to heart big time.

Married life has never been so much fun. We don’t get often get a look at that part of romance once a book ends, so this story is especially entertaining. Definitely read Heart-Shaped Hack before jumping into WHH, though it can be read as a stand-alone. You will miss too much of the essence of Ian and Kate if you don’t. The banter, the steamy and sexy bedroom antics, and the love should be read from the beginning. I’m not sure there’s going to be more in this series. I sure hope so. I could read about these two every day and never get bored. But the end of this book sounds a bit “complete,” though I’m not giving up hope for more.

Tracey Garvis-Graves has once again reinforced why she’s always near the top of my favorites and auto-buy list.

Summary:

When cybercriminals doxed undercover hacker Ian Bradshaw and forced him to flee, he begged Kate Watts for forgiveness and vowed never to hurt her again. He also convinced her to marry him, and when their idyllic summer on Roanoke Island comes to an end, the newlyweds relocate to their new home deep in the heart of Virginia’s horse and wine country. Ian still struggles with boundaries, but he keeps Kate’s lingerie drawer filled with surprises, and there’s no shortage of number-six kisses. There’s even a fast, new car to replace his beloved Shelby.

Ian promised Kate that life with him would never be boring, but spending her days picking out paint colors and going to Pilates isn’t going to cut it. Meanwhile, Ian discovers that building a white-hat security firm from the ground up seems harder the second time around, and he might have underestimated how much he’d miss the undercover work he walked away from. To make matters worse, the hacktivists are threatening national security, and the task force could really use Ian’s help.

Kate and Ian have always worried that their past would catch up to them, and when faced with the biggest showdown of their lives, they must capitalize on the one thing they excel at most: teamwork. Ian claims no one is a better hacker than him, but in order to triumph, he’ll have to prove it. And if he can’t, he risks losing the woman whose heart he worked so hard to hack.
