Book CoverTabs’ review of Up For Heir (Westerly Billionaire Series, Book 2) by Ruth Cardello
Contemporary Romance published by Montlake Romance 14 Nov 17

In this fun second-chance romance, a meddling grandmother attempts to right a wrong by playing matchmaker. Delinda Westerly unintentionally laid a devastating secret on her youngest grandson and is determined to make amends. Because she’s filthy rich, she doesn’t apologize like a normal person would. Oh no, she manipulates and schemes. You see, Spencer and Hailey dated in college but eventually broke up due to youth and circumstances. Although they both moved on, neither one really entirely got over the other. A little nudge might be all they need.

Hailey Tiverton is struggling. After the recent death of her brother and his wife, she is trying to manage her grief and cope with parenting her seven-year-old niece, Skye. When she loses her job due to frequent absences, she’s at the end of her rope. Luckily, an ad for a personal assistant job practically falls into her lap and it might just give her and Skye the hand-up they so desperately need. It turns out the job is for her long-ago ex-boyfriend’s grandmother, but she’s sure that’s just a weird coincidence.

Spencer Westerly is pretty much pissed off at the whole world. His loved ones are understanding, but they’re also not willing to just leave him be. When he spies Hailey running an errand at his office, it’s just the spark he needs to get his life back on track and embrace something good. Luckily for them, their chemistry is as combustible as ever and the years since they were last together gave them both much needed time to grow up and mature.

Hailey and Spencer’s romance is solid, but Hailey and Delinda is the ‘ship I will die on.’ From the get-go, Hailey doesn’t put up with Delinda’s shit. so she immediately gains the older woman’s respect. Delinda has developed an ice queen persona to insulate herself from emotional pain, but she’s not intentionally malicious or cruel. She almost immediately bonds with Skye and watching her spoil the little girl with crazy over-the-top rich-person antics while Hailey tries desperately to teach her about boundaries and restraint is great. I absolutely love them together.

This is the second book in a series, and while the plot deals with things from the first book, I was able to go in cold without any trouble. I really, really enjoyed this book. The characters were fun. Hailey’s pragmatism and no-nonsense attitude in the face of crazy made me laugh. I spent most of the book with a big grin on my face. I’ll definitely be trying the next one in the series.

Summary:

Spencer Westerly is his own man. He didn’t need his father’s money to build his wildly successful tech company—and he doesn’t want to deal with the fallout from old family secrets. But as much as Spencer wants to avoid Westerly drama, his grandmother—the family matriarch—is determined to pull him back into the fold. And she’s discovered the perfect lure: his college sweetheart, Hailey.

Although she broke his heart, Hailey is still the only woman he’s ever loved. Now that she’s back and looking as desirable as ever, Spencer is determined to get a second chance.

A lot has changed for Hailey Tiverton. The only thing that hasn’t? The inexplicable pull she feels toward Spencer. When they were younger, his work was his priority. Now, he’d better be willing to prove that, this time, love comes first…
