Book CoverSandy M’s review of A Wedding Tail (Rescue Dog, Book 3) by Casey Griffin
Contemporary Romance published by St. Martin’s Paperbacks 1 Aug 17

Coming off a slight reading slump in which too many books couldn’t hold my attention, and in between my favorites’ new releases, I decided to try new-to-me authors to end my dry spell. So with this cute cover with a cute premise, Casey Griffin caught my attention. I hoped for good stuff, even though this is the third book in a series.

Unfortunately, because Zoe is supposed to be an elite and sought-after wedding planner, for this particular wedding to start off the book, everything – and I mean everything – goes wrong. Literally one thing after another. Yes, she nips each problem in the bud so the wedding will start on time, and even when it does, the zingers keep on coming during the ceremony and after. All of it is probably for comedic effect, but it honesty was way too much for me. It’s in the middle of all of this she meets the hero, Levi.

He’s called in at the last minute to stand in as a groomsman, but she’s not impressed. Thus, there’s no chemistry between them initially. She is later impressed just a little with his organ skills, which are also needed last minute, but in the whole scheme of the moments going wrong, that’s not much and she still doesn’t care much for him. It’s early in the book, and I know their interaction will continue and change, but I’m sorry to say after the first two chapters, I just didn’t care to go any further with them.

To give a book a fair chance, I usually try to read a few more chapters, but I’ve recently gone through too many like this that left me a bit bored and unwilling to pick it up again when I put it down for one reason or another. I kept telling myself I would try once more to give these two a chance, but when it came right down to it, I just couldn’t. There’s nothing between them to draw me back to see how they get to their HEA.

DNF’ing a book is not something I do lightly. But when my hopes are dashed so soon in a story, I’ve learned to just let go. I may pick up a book in another of Ms. Griffin’s series, but I don’t think I’ll be visiting this one again any time soon.

Summary:

Wedding planner Zoe Plum has brides from all walks of life vying for her services. The only problem is: happily-single Zoe doesn’t actually enjoy weddings—but that might change when she meets the singer of a local band playing at one of her weddings. His name is Levi Dolson and he’s too gorgeous for his own good. And now he’s gone ahead and charmed her new dachshund. . .

It’s no secret that Zoe doesn’t believe in fairy tales, but that doesn’t stop her from wanting to make sweet music with Levi. While she’s convinced she doesn’t need a man, when someone starts setting one trap after the next to make sure she never plans a wedding ever again, she might need Levi in more ways than she could have imagined. But just how far is Zoe’s hidden enemy willing to go? The only thing Levi knows for sure is that he will do everything in his power to protect the woman who brings music to his soul. Maybe that will prove to Zoe, once and for all, that he is a man worthy of her heart. . .
