Book CoverVeena’s review of Bound Together (Sisters of the Heart, Book 6) by Christine Feehan
Paranormal Romance published by Berkley 21 Mar 17

Many readers have been speculating for some time that the mysterious man in Blythe’s past is none other than the eldest Prakenskii brother, which was finally confirmed in the last book.  In this ending book of the series, Ms. Feehan ties in the lose threads from the Drake sister series with the grand reunion of Blythe and Viktor, plus, as an extra bonus, introduces us to a host of new characters who will doubtless get to star in her next spin-off.

There are a lot of difficult-to-read scenes featuring rape, torture, and abuse as the back stories of the horrific childhood that Viktor and his fellow survivors of the brutal Russian school is brought to light.  This is a difficult and dark subject matter, so please proceed at your own peril. The heroes in Ms. Feehan’s stories are strong and dominant men, be they Carpathians, leopards, or Prakenskiis.  Viktor Prakenskii, or Czar as his brethren call him, fits right in with the biggest and baddest of them. He has survived the most horrific life, some of which is told in most graphic detail that is disturbing to read. He’s lived under cover away from Blythe for five years, setting up the ultimate sting operation, and now it’s time for the endgame, which happens to be in Sea Haven. It’s almost funny how he sees a reality that is so different from the truth, when he and Blythe finally meet on the street in Sea Haven.

Only a Neanderthal can expect a woman he hasn’t seen or spoken to for five years to fall in line with his plans and act as though those years apart never happened.  Blythe’s reaction to Viktor’s autocratic expectations, when he rides up into her life, comes as no surprise to anyone but Czar Viktor Prakenskii.  Having been deep undercover, Viktor has no clue that Blythe has never received any communication from him after he abruptly left her or that the secret Prakenskii communication channel has been compromised.

With Viktor’s appearance in her life, Blythe finally shares her hidden past with her sisters, letting us readers into the know as well.  When Viktor, having eavesdropped on this conversation, tries to force the issue with Blythe, she hits the panic button in her house, summoning his brothers ready to defend her. Poor Viktor finally meets his biological brothers after so many years of protecting them from afar across battle lines drawn in their desire to protect Blythe – even from him.

Viktor wants Blythe on so many different levels.  He wants her help to rescue and mother three young girls trapped in a slave trading ring, as well his brothers and sisters who have survived unspeakable crimes with him in the Russian school he was consigned to as a young child. It’s quite humorous to witness Blythe’s reaction when these brothers and sisters show up ready to protect Viktor and her in their most intimate moments.  It’s no wonder that one of the priorities on Viktor’s list is soundproofing their bedroom to maintain Blythe’s modesty.

As Viktor plans his endgame, the Drake sisters and their spouses come together with the sisters of the heart and their spouses, along with Viktor’s brothers and sisters of the heart. The author does a great job of catching up her readers to all that’s being happening in Sea Haven as this large extended family pools all their gifts together to execute Viktor’s master plan.  Of course, there are also lots of hot, steamy scenes between Blythe and Victor, as is typical of Ms. Feehan’s books.

On a personal note, overall this is not my one of my favorite books, despite the fun in catching up with all the characters and getting a whole new cast of characters, some of whom may be very interesting possibilities for future stories.

Grade: C+
