Book CoverSandy M’s review of Where Wind Meets Wave (Prairie Hearts, Book 6) by Caroline Fyffe
Historical Romance published by Amazon Digital Services 22 Oct 16

Throughout this series, from the very first book, Jake has had my heart. He had a rough start in life, but when he made it to Logan Meadows with Chase and Jessie, his new life has been one good thing after another. He’s found a family, friends, and love. But there’s one issue that still haunts him, and my heart broke for him in Whispers on the Wind when he believes the man he is isn’t good enough without a last name to marry his sweetheart.

His relationship with his mother, who has been in Logan Meadows for a while now, is not on good footing. Especially so when he discovers she’s known all along who his father is, after years of denying that fact. Now Jake is on his way to finally meet his father in Newport, Oregon – hoping to make it there before the man takes his final breath. Leaving his fiance, Daisy, is difficult, but Jake needs to take this journey for himself, and you’re very lucky as the reader to go along with him.

Jake does make it to Oregon before his father’s death. He learns so much he never knew, of course, but even that doesn’t bring around the forgiveness he knows his dad wants. Jake is also thrown a few curve balls when he arrives. He has two sisters, one with a level head and one who will probably drive him crazy with her wildness. But he steps up to the task as head of the family to keep them all together and out of trouble. And the story is really action packed when it comes to some of that trouble.

There’s an old friend who desperately needs Jake’s help. Just when he’s ready to put a plan in motion, his level-headed sister insists on being part of it all. I so enjoyed those scenes of the prison break and its aftermath, not knowing if they’d be caught. And in the midst of it all, seems there’s a new romance on the horizon. I think that one is going to be a lot of fun for both author and readers. I also enjoyed the scenes when Jake takes his big brother duties seriously with his youngest sibling, trying to keep her from making a huge mistake with her life, and then the following antics to get them on the road back to Wyoming are full of last-minute and out-of-the-blue intensity.

After all this Jake realizes a few things about his mom, and it’s nice to see them on their way back to being mother and son. She’s not been a favorite character of mine, but at least once the story is told, you do understand her better, along with why she kept such secrets for so long. Then there’s Daisy, who would have Jake with or without a last name. Their love is as real as it gets and you feel that with every look, touch, and word between them. It’s always wonderful when there’s a wedding in town.

Ms. Fyffe gives readers a bit of everything in this book, and that will keep you reading no matter what. I always like visiting with the folks of Logan Meadows. They have true hearts and unwavering courage in the American West. I don’t know if another Prairie Hearts book is in the works or not. I’m hoping so, because my appetite has been whetted after meeting the two in this story who may be next and it would be loads of fun to see where they go and how they get there.
