Book CoverVeena’s review of This Is Our Song (Shaughnessy Brothers, Book 4) by Samantha Chase
Contemporary Romance published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 06 Dec 16

Ms. Chase is one of my favorite authors. Her deeply emotional love stories inspire equal parts laughter and tears.  Successful relationships are not just about two people, but it’s how the families come together and assimilate.  The extra family element in this story in how it’s not just about Riley and Savannah really elevated it to the top of my favorites list.

The author takes us backstage into the life of a famous rock musician and shows how insecure and vulnerable a famous personality can be, despite their public persona. Riley and his fellow band mates are at the top of their game, when his mates all decide to pursue their individual dreams. Suddenly Riley finds himself at rock bottom, his music seems to have deserted him, and he’s been turned down for a documentary that he had his heart set on.  Forced into an interview by his record label, he meets entertainment reporter Savannah Daly.

Not only is she beautiful, but her personality just seems to fit Riley so well that his musical well that has been so dry suddenly begins to run again. As they spend time together so that Savannah can get to know the man behind the legend in order to write her story, the readers really get to know Riley and Savannah as well.  Chemistry is definitely a plus in any romance and they have that one covered, but it’s how seamlessly Savannah fits in with his large extended family that lifts this story from the ordinary.

Of course, it was too good to be true and I kept waiting for the other shoe to fall, which it does, creating a huge impediment between these two ideally suited people. I absolutely loved how the author gets them beyond the hump and brings them back together. I think I’ve run out of superlatives, but, in case it isn’t clear, I highly recommend the series and most particularly this story.

Grade: A

Summary:

She knows him by reputation
Riley Shaughnessy knew that to stand out in his large family, he’d have to go big. Making a name for himself as a musician wasn’t easy, but he followed his dreams to rock-star success. But the relentless expectations of fans is not helping the slump he’s in now. So of course the person who attracts him is the woman who is not impressed by fame.

Which gives Riley Shaughnessy a lot to prove
Entertainment reporter Savannah Daly is completely unfazed by pretty-boy rock stars. She’s just here to get her interview and write her story. But spending an entire month with the Shaughnessys is going to show Savannah a side of Riley she never could have guessed.
