Book CoverKristie J’s review of Playboy Pilot by Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward
Contemporary Romance published by Everafter Romance 18 Sep 16

Although I’ve only read a couple of their books, I’ve become quite a fan of this writing duo.  So when I saw this one was to be released and at a special price, I was right on it.  And did it measure up?

It sure did!  Now I’m already hoping they have more planned for the future.  It’s important for a book to grab me right from the beginning, otherwise it runs the risk of the dreaded ‘eh, I’ll try it again later’ pile.  And this one grabbed me.

Kendall, our heroine, is sitting in an airport, at a definite crossroads in her life when she runs into Carter, our hero.  After an odd and cute conversation during which they really connected, Carter has a plane to catch.  He impulsively asks her to go with him.  Of course Kendall refuses, they’ve just met after all.  But then, at the very last moment she decides why not?  There is no place she has to be right away, there definitely was a connection, she’s not hurting for money, and she doesn’t have a job she has to get to.  She’s disappointed when she doesn’t see him on the plane, but then … she hears his voice and realizes he’s the pilot.  It doesn’t take long before she realizes that he defines ‘friendly skies’ and he has quite the rep amongst the airline hostesses.  This gives Kendall pause.  But when they reach their destination and Carter sees Kendall, well, sparks continue to fly and he’s elated that she came. So she taps down her reservations about his player ways.

Right from the start he realizes that Kendall is special and he doesn’t treat her like he does all his other women.  They have a wonderful time together, and when it’s time for him to pilot another plane, he asks her again to come with him.  Since nothing has changed for Kendall on the personal front, she again goes along.

This book is light and it’s fun, and until close to the end when the Big Misunderstanding comes up and kind of mucks things up, I love both Carter and Kendall.  Though, yes, Carter is a player, once he meets Kendall, his ‘play’ time is over.  He knows he has a past and he knows it throws a monkey wrench into things.  But I love how patient he is with Kendall.  He respects her boundaries with their growing relationship and he respects her.  I love this about him.  And I love that he ‘thinks in song.’ That’s something I do too.  I don’t know how to explain this except there is a song lyric for just about every situation and I’m always thinking of them.  Carter, though, is a hoot as most of his ‘thinking in song’ is Beatles song lyrics.

As we get to know him, we see that he has his ghosts and he is actually much deeper than just a studly airline pilot, and when we see him in his personal time, well, if the reader hasn’t already fallen in love with him, they will when they see him ‘off the clock.’

And Kendall is quite an enjoyable character.  She can see and truly appreciate Carter’s adorable quirkiness.  As I said above, she is at a crossroads and has to make a serious life-changing decision shortly.  I kept hope she would make the decision I was hoping she would, but I won’t say what it is.  Big spoiler that would be.

So with a quirky yet delightful hero, a heroine I can get on board with, a number of scenes that had me smiling and laughing, good banter, this has all I want in a book, and I quite happily recommend it.

Summary:

Money or love? Which would you choose?

You probably just answered the question in your head thinking it’s an easy decision.

For me, it’s not. Did I mention it’s a lot of money? A hell of a lot.

I needed to go far away to think it through.

As I embarked on an impulsive trip, I hit a detour when I met sexy Carter in the airport lounge. We struck up a heated conversation.

Then, he left.

I thought I’d never see him again.

But fate had other plans.

Surprise! He was the pilot of my flight.

The bigger surprise was the adventure that followed after the plane landed.

Carter was dangerous and always on the move.

Even though our connection was magnetic, I knew it was only temporary.

He would give me tickets, and I would follow him around the world to exotic places.

A bevy of flight attendant exes and rumors about Carter’s reputation were never far behind.

I didn’t know what to believe.
But I was addicted. Nothing else mattered anymore. And I was going to get hurt. Because a part of me wanted to be the one to finally ground the playboy pilot.

At the very least, he was taking me on a thrilling ride.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.
