Book CoverVeena’s review of Surrender to You (At Your Service, Book 2) by Shawntelle Madison
Erotic Romance published by Love Swept 12 Jul 16

There were tantalizing glimpses of Carlie and her destructive relationship with Tomas in the earlier novel in the series, and I couldn’t wait to read how it all turns out.  This is a much more complicated story than first appears from reading the first book and/or the blurb from the back of this book.  Carlie and Tomas have indulged in one-night stands all around the world, usually at Carlie’s invite. Now they are in the same city at the same time. Will this time turn out to be different?

Carlie and Tomas have had an interesting relationship from the time they first met as young adults. Carlie is a product of the foster care system in New York and yearns to know more about her roots. Tomas, on the other hand, comes from extreme wealth and the type of dysfunctional childhood that is often associated with that strata of society and wealth. Dear friends from the get-go, the sexual attraction between them is off the charts and neither can resist the other, even if their relationship seems to be destructive.

Carlie finally has a possible lead to her parents. Tomas happens to be in the same city as well.  He wants to change the status quo but is unable to gainsay Carlie. Then circumstances take a hand and finds Carlie working in Tomas’s hotel. Tomas and Carlie are unable to resist each other, whether it’s in Tomas’s office or the infamous twenty-third floor or at Carlie’s apartment. Let me tell you, this book is almost worth reading just to learn about the twenty-third floor.

I find this story much deeper and  more emotional, especially as Carlie finds what she’s looking for and Tomas’ tenderness as he unobtrusively supports Carlie find her desires. For all that the four friends have survived foster care together and talk every week, no matter where they are, Carlie has kept her innermost self and problems hidden from them. Like true friends, their reaction when she finally gets the courage to come clean is all that it should be.

While I enjoyed Sophie’s story, Carly and Tomas blew me away. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for the remaining two friends.

Grade: B

Summary:

In this seductive novel from the author of Bound to You, two career-oriented friends with benefits discover that good morning doesn’t have to mean goodbye.

Late-night booty calls are the most romantic gesture that Carlie Jason expects from business magnate Tomas Goodfellow. Ever since they were teenagers, they’ve provided each other the kind of no-strings pleasures that don’t involve regrets. Now Carlie finds it easier to kiss and run rather than face the fact that she wants so much more. But when she takes a job as a concierge at one of Tomas’s properties, a hotel where the rich and famous get their kink on, Carlie’s tempted to reconsider the rules of surrender.

As the head of an international empire, Tomas knows how to bring out the best in his employees. Putting Carlie in charge of managing the desires of his wealthiest clients was a stroke of genius—only now that she’s close enough to touch, he finds he doesn’t want to let her go. Their long, dark history has built up intimacy in ways he’s only just beginning to understand, but Tomas isn’t ready to trust her just yet. He knows his feelings are more than skin-deep. But first he needs to convince Carlie of one thing: the ties that bind go straight to the heart.
