Book CoverDinca’s Review of Cowboy Boots for Christmas (Burnt Boot, Texas, Book 1) by Carolyn Brown
Contemporary Romance published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 7 Oct 14

Apparently the Burnt Boot series is a spinoff of another series by Carolyn Brown. It looks like I will have some serious reading to do to catch up. Burnt Boot is a crazy world of its own, and what a trip!

Finn O’Donnell is home from Afghanistan and trying to carve out a place in life after service to his country. He is sour on love, after being duped by a woman who turned out to be a spy. He thought she was blown up over there but finds out she is alive and well. When his Army buddy and the other half of his sniper team shows up needing refuge for her nephew, he welcomes them at his new ranch, Salt Draw.

Callie Brewster needs a safe haven for her nephew who witnessed a murder. Instead of going into the witness protection program, she heads to Finn, who she knows will help keep her nephew safe. After all, that is what they had done in Afghanistan, keep each other safe. As his spotter she knows they are a winning team. Callie know hiding out on the ranch is one thing, but falling for the rancher is out of the question. She has no intention of living her life out on a ranch.

This story has everything a country music writer would love. Well, maybe not a train, but it’s still good and makes for an interesting tale. The story moved right along at a steady pace and had highlights with a parrot that watched too many crime shows and could not keep a secret.

You will fall in love with the little old ladies in this series and the kids will keep you entertained. And who can resist a Christmas love story.

Summary:

All he wants for Christmas is peace and quiet…
After two tours in Afghanistan, retired Army sniper Finn O’Donnell believes his new ranch outside the sleepy little town of Burnt Boot, Texas, is the perfect place for an undisturbed holiday season. But before he can settle in, an old friend shows up looking for protection and a place where nobody knows her name.

But that’s going to take a miracle…
Callie Brewster must relocate to protect her young nephew, Martin, and the only person she trusts is her old Army friend, Finn. Burnt Boot seems like the perfect place to be anonymous, but it turns out a small town with big drama is no place to hide…
