Book CoverVeena’s review of Heart Strike (Delta Force, Book 2) by M.L. Buchman
Romantic Suspense published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 02 Aug 16

Melissa Moore joins the very small and very elite group of women Delta operators where she joins the American war against drugs. Deployed on her first mission, she meets geeky Richie Goldman, nicknamed “Q” in a salute to the famous James Bond franchise character. Ladies and gentlemen, fasten your seat belts and get ready for some passionate romance mixed with kick-ass action in true M.L. Buchman style.

The last person Melissa wanted to work with is Carla Anderson, the bitch who graduated before her, but to her dismay, not only will she need to work with Carla, but she’ll need to create a place for herself in a team that’s closely bonded through Delta training and several live missions. While it seems like the rest of the team has closed ranks against her, Richie “Q” Goldman is more than willing to open his heart and arms to welcome her. She might have run away from her first mission but fortunately she and Richie are assigned to flight school to learn to fly all manner of interesting airplanes in preparation for their next mission.

As they learn to fly during the night, they bond during the day in more ways than one. Given a couple of days off, they take one of the aircraft and clandestinely head to the Bahamas where things begin to go wrong.  Suddenly they’re arrested and thrown into jail for stealing a drug lord’s plane. In true Delta fashion, they’ve inadvertently created a cover for themselves that will help them accomplish their mission parameters to find the trade routes which is bringing the drugs into the country.

And so begins the second phase of the book with them flying for a drug operation, with the rest of the team posing as security guards. While Carla was the most vocal and resentful of the newcomer to the team, she and Kyle are amongst the first to actually welcome Melissa to the team. It’s their other two teammates who have the most trouble and spook Richie into questioning his attraction to her.

This is a very straightforward love story under the most intense conditions. I really enjoyed the interactions between the various team members, but most especially the transition between the warrior Richie, the dreamy Q, and the lover boy as much as Melissa did. The action keeps things interesting in a story without a lot of highs and lows. It’ll be interesting to see where the author will take this series next.
