Book CoverSandy M’s review of The Right Kind of Trouble (McKays, Book 3) by Shiloh Walker
Contemporary Romance published by St. Martin’s Paperbacks 2 Aug 16

At the beginning of each trilogy Shiloh Walker writes, I’m happy as can be to be reading the first book, with anticipation skittering in the back of my mind of the two books yet to come. Of course, the day arrives when that last book is read, all mysteries have been solved, and love has found new favorite characters all around. Thus is the case with the McKay siblings of McKay’s Treasure. I’ve enjoyed each story, but Gideon’s and Moira’s is bittersweet amid the evil that has been following them all for months now.

These two have been in love since their teens. But things changed after Moira’s parents died – she became head of the family and the business, so it was Gideon who was, in essence, pushed aside. Things have run deeper in Moira all these years, however, and Gideon has no idea what’s been pushing her for so long. They’ve had impulsive quickies now and again, but every time ends with Moira gliding right back into her protective shell, leaving Gideon reeling on the outside.

He has, however, come to the point where taking any more of the hurt, anger, and frustration can’t go on. He’s tried to move on by dating, which was a total failure. So Gideon has decided to leave McKay’s Treasure, to start again somewhere without Moira, and then the attacks against her and the family are stepped up. There’s no way he can leave while she’s in danger, but as soon as he’s caught his culprit, Gideon is on his way out.

We know, of course, that Moira will eventually come to her senses, but in the meantime the hurt and turmoil roiling through these two is palpable every time they realize what they’ve agonized over and never had for so many years. When Moira finally decides twenty years’ punishment is enough, it’s time to finally be happy with Gideon, she still has a rough road ahead in convincing him she won’t change her mind again. I do so enjoy it when love conquers all. Especially when it includes beating a killer at his own game, and this villain gets what he deserves, in my opinion. Nasty, evil man. He puts all these characters and the town of McKay’s Treasure through hell for much too long.

We also get some glimpses of Neve and Ian and Brannon and Hannah as they all work together to try to solve their mystery. Marriages and babies make for a lovely happy ending, and all three couples have their dreams coming true in spades by the end of this book. Another emotional, suspenseful, and romantic series from Shiloh Walker. I can’t wait to find out what she’s working on next.
