Book CoverVeena’s review of Blood Lust (The Sentinels, Book 3) by Alexandra Ivy
Paranormal Romance published by Zebra 31 May 16

What do muggles and mud bloods (Harry Potter fans) have in common with high bloods? Through the soaring power of her imagination, Alexandra Ivy creatively marries magical ability and psychic talents with spine-tingling adventure. Bas is a special class of high blood, being a trained assassin who has an adorable non-magical daughter, Molly. We met them in a previous story where Molly was the star attraction, but it seems that she has more adventures in store.

The union between Bas and Myst was explosive, resulting in the delightful Molly, whom Myst left behind for Bas to raise.  Molly often talks to Bas about her conversations with her mother, which he’s always dismissed as her imagination, but it turns out that Myst is telepathic and has always been in communication with her daughter. When she shows up after Molly’s safe return to keep her promise to spend time with her daughter in person, Bas finds his long-suppressed desire for Myst rekindled to a roaring fire.

As Bas sees the interactions between Myst and Molly, his barely suppressed desire for her enflames him. When he learns the truth about why she’s on the run, he calls in every single favor he can to figure out how to keep her safe and create a family with her and Molly. It turns out that Myst is destined to create a weapon of mass destruction. Readers will really appreciate the beauty of the author’s imagination when the truth is revealed. Bas and Myst, however, are ambushed when they set out on their search for the truth, thanks to another high blood prophesying where they’ll be.  From Bas’s perspective, once they escape, it might be a good thing because it gives him much needed time to further his cause with the lovely Myst.

I feel the story moves a little slow in the beginning, but when it does pick up the pace, boy, does it rush into a thrilling finish as all is revealed and the world is made safe again. I am definitely intrigued by what Bas’ enforcer has to hide and how he ended up in imprisoned in the trunk where Bas rescued him from.  Things continue to smolder between the two top people at Valhalla, but will they ever come together?  I feel that could be a very interesting story when the author is ready to tell it.

This is a good filler story in the middle of the series to keep things alive and introduce new characters while laying out the bread crumbs for what is to come.

Grade: B

The Sentinel assassin, Bas, is facing the greatest challenge of his outcast existence. His young daughter, Molly, has been kidnapped. But her disappearance has brought the return of her mother, Myst, whom Bas has never forgotten–or forgiven.

Haunted by a vision that she’s destined to create a weapon that will destroy thousands, Myst was never impulsive–until she met the irresistibly handsome Bas. But with the Brotherhood, the enemy of the high-bloods hunting for her, Myst had to stay on the run, to keep her child, and the world, safe. Now, with the most important thing in both their lives at stake, she and Bas must embark on a treacherous journey to save Molly, to confront the truth of Myst’s fate–and to face their fierce desire for one another.
