Book CoverTabs’ review of Dirty (Dive Bar, Book 1) by Kylie Scott
Contemporary Romance published by St. Martin’s Griffin 19 Apr 16

This spin-off from Kylie Scott’s Stage Dive Series throws together a runaway bride and a down-on-his-luck rocker. Lydia Green thought she’d found a place to grow roots and a nice stable husband, until some last-minute revelations send her fleeing before the ceremony. Vaughn Hewson thought he’d come home for a bit, mend his hemorrhaging bank account, and get back on the rock bandwagon. He’s pretty shocked to find a weeping woman in a wedding dress in his tub, but she has great tits and is obviously having a moment, so he rolls with it.

Vaughn and Lydia hit it off immediately and are quite fun together. They enjoy each other’s company, have off-the-charts sexual chemistry, and are both in transitional phases of their lives. Them getting together makes a lot of sense, especially when they both go in expecting a temporary fling but deepening feelings and outside constraints make for rougher waters.

Vaughn can be a bit of an ass. His band has recently broken up, but he’s determined to get back on the scene and pick up where he left off. Considering that he might want different things than he used to is just not something he’s ready to do and he reacts badly when forced to. He’s not always likable and his actions sometimes feel plot-driven rather than character-driven. Lydia, however, doesn’t let his bad behavior slide when he slips into it and makes it crystal clear that he done fucked up and that is not acceptable. Lydia is aces.

This book is a helluva good time. As always with Kylie Scott’s contemporaries, the hilarious dialogue and witty one-liners just fly out of everyone’s mouths. The dirty talk is super dirty (“Don’t make me fuck you against this wall, Lydia.”). A good time is had by all. I’m also super hooked on the cast of characters. There’s an underlying subplot that is killing me. I need to know who will end up with who! I neeeeeed it. Consider me incredibly on board with this new series.

Summary:

The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken hearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that come with her.

Lydia Green doesn’t know whether to scream or cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it’s with his best man is another thing all together.

Just when this runaway bride has nowhere left to turn, a handsome stranger offers her a broad, muscular shoulder to cry on. Vaughan is the exact opposite of the picture perfect, respected businessmen she’s normally drawn to. This former musician-turned-bartender is rough around the edges and is facing his own crossroads. But Lydia’s already tried Mr. Right and discovered he’s all wrong–maybe it’s time to give Mr. Right Now a chance.

After all, what’s wrong with getting dirty?
