Book CoverVeena’s review of Betting the Bad Boy (Bad Boys of Destiny, Book 2) by Sugar Jamison
Contemporary Romance published by Swerve 02 Feb 16

I was a bit on the fence when I agreed to read this book for the blog, but the story was so engaging that I absolutely enjoyed this second chance at romance for Duke and Grace.  The King brothers swore they would never set foot in the small town of Destiny where every one knew their business and looked down upon them, particularly Duke King who left  in handcuffs, wrongly accused of a crime.  Now he’s a multi-millionaire and back in town, only to find that he had left behind a pregnant girlfriend and is now father to a teenage son. He wants to be the father to his son that he never had. Will the small town with long memories allow him the luxury? Does he even want to stay and raise his son here?

Where once Duke came from the wrong side of the tracks and Grace was a princess that he barely aspired to touch, now their roles are totally reversed. To boot, Grace is struggling to raise a fatherless son who has definitely inherited all his father’s genes.  As Duke moves in with Grace to demonstrate that he can co-parent successfully, he’s put in a position where he inadvertently undermines her whether it comes to what he can buy his son or even the food choices that are very different from the bland healthy choices that Grace feels she needs to raise her son on.

Duke’s evolving relationship with his son and with Grace will tug at your emotional heart strings. It’s interesting how much the son is a mix of Duke and his brothers.  Duke is also able to finally face down Grace’s father and acknowledge that if he had been left unchecked in his youth, he might not have become the successful young man that he is today. As the brothers start to put down roots in a town that they couldn’t wait to leave in their dust, it’s interesting for them to find out that they weren’t as hated or looked down upon as they thought.

I can’t wait to read the last book in the series, though I have to admit this is my favorite so far.

Grade: A

Summary:

Ten years ago, Duke King knew that getting involved with Grace Truman would only bring trouble into his already hard life. After all, the son of the town drunk has no business falling for the judge’s daughter…a passion that led to disaster and ended with Duke serving a ten year prison sentence. Duke never wanted to return to Destiny, especially now that he’s built a multimillion dollar custom car empire with his brothers. But when his sick aunt calls him home, he must face his past and discover a secret that instantly changes his life.

Grace never thought she would see Duke again, especially after years of silence. But when Duke comes storming back into her life, looking hotter than ever, and determined to get to know the son he never knew he had, she realizes that maybe she’d been wrong about him so many years ago. So Grace decides to make Duke a bet. If he can stay in the house with them for the next thirty days and prove he’ll be a good father, she’ll agree to letting him be part of his son’s life. If not, he’d better be prepared for a fight.

Going from single guy to family man isn’t going to be easy for Duke, especially with the still sexy, now fiery, Grace clouding his every thought. Can Duke be the man he never thought he could be or will his old bad boy ways be too much to conquer?
