Book CoverVeena’s review of Wedding Night with the Earl (Heirs’ Club of Scoundrels, Book 3) by Amelia Grey
Historical Romance published by St. Martin’s Paperbacks 01 Mar 16

I absolutely loved the first two books in this series and could hardly wait for Adam Greyhawke to find his HEA. He was portrayed as a tragic character who had lost his wife and child during childbirth, which caused him to retreat from the polite world in a haze of misery and drink.  Even as his friends kept vigil and went to visit him, I knew it would take a strong character to bring Adam back into the world of the living.  When events escalate him to earl and saddle him with a young cousin and heir, causing him to head to London, I was salivating, but I was definitely unprepared for him to get bowled over at the first society event he attends.

Katherine Wright, ward of a duke, has been brought up in privilege after she was orphaned and lamed in an accident. Now in her third season, she’s beautiful, polished, and determined to make a decision regarding a suitable husband. When a gorgeous man asks her out of the blue to dance, she’s definitely taken aback, especially when he seems to have missed her walking stick. After some clever repartee, she finds him seated next to her at dinner and scandal follows when she gives him her dinner plate, followed quickly by a passionate kiss in the garden afterward.  Well, the story is off to a great start.

I was a bit taken aback to see Adam, who’s still brooding and unhappy on page one, so quickly succumbing to the lure of a beautiful, young woman a few chapters down and then proving to be a bit of a rogue in taking advantage of her at every opportunity he gets. They make a great couple, the chemistry between them is red hot, and the lady definitely knows her mind. She is a contradiction in that she knows she’s committed to accepting a husband by the end of the season and even has one shortlisted while she indulges herself with Adam, secretly hoping for a more permanent relationship with him rather than her chosen suitor.

Adam is a virile young man who’s attracted to Katherine and has no qualms about acting on his attraction. He has no intentions of marrying, particularly since he doesn’t want to subject any woman to childbirth and the possibility of death. On the other hand, he encourages Katherine to embrace a full life by walking without a stick and even dancing.

All these contradictions took over my brain and made my head ache, diverting me from the delightful repartee and budding relationship between the two.

Grade: C+

Summary:
A stubborn nobleman and a willful young woman are at the heart of bestselling author Amelia Grey’s newest love story.

HE THINKS LOVE IS MUCH ADO.
Adam Greyhawke is through with marriage. After losing his wife at a young age, he’s more interested in carousing and gambling at the Heirs’ Club than taking another trip to the altar. When his obligations as the Earl of Greyhawke thrust him into the heart of Society, he dreads the boredom that only a ballroom can inspire in a roguish scoundrel. That is, until he meets a bewitching young woman who captures his curiosity―and reminds him just how delicious desire can be.

IS SHE READY TO SAY I DO?
Miss Katherine Wright is accustomed to men interested only in her generous dowry. Adam’s attraction is far more powerful―he tests her wits and her courage at every turn, until she finds herself longing to fulfill an everlasting passion she never imagined was possible. But the breathtakingly handsome nobleman is as stubborn as he is scandalous, and Katharine must be the one to convince him that real love is worth any risk…
