Veena’s review of Her Wild Hero (X-Ops, Book 3) by Paige Tyler
Paranormal Romance published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 05 May 15

This is an action-packed story in an exciting series. Kendra is itching to get out in the field instead of always monitoring the action remotely from her lab.  She finally gets her wish on what should have been a simple training exercise, except it quickly turns sideways.  The adrenaline starts pumping right from the beginning as their mission is sabotaged and they come under heavy fire. The attack is too well coordinated to be simply coincidence, suggesting that there’s a traitor in their midst.  The heat from the red-hot chemistry and the chills from encounters with the enemy kept me awake and feverishly reading through the night.

Declan is a bear shifter who had a rough time growing up. He’s had a thing for Kendra from the time he joined the DCO, but she’s never given him any encouragement, especially since she’s been fixated on another shifter. Ashamed of his rough upbringing that makes him unworthy of her, he’s managed to put his feelings in cold storage. But when they’re paired together on a mission, all bets are off.

Kendra knows the other guy was a mistake, an infatuation that she’s well over, and now that she knows that Declan is possibly her match, he’s not responding to her overtures. From her view point, it’s pretty neat that they’ll have an opportunity in the jungle to explore their feelings. She doesn’t really expect the mission to go fubar and have them fighting to survive. She’s going to prove that she’s the right mate for Declan in all ways and she’s definitely ready to pull her weight.

I love all the bearish tricks that Declan teaches her as they go on the run.  Kendra is a kick-ass female who, despite her sojourn in the lab, has been training hard and can definitely pull her own weight – and even Declan’s on a couple of rare occasions. Their discovery of what is behind the attack is shocking and they definitely all need to band together as a team to turn the tables and become the hunter instead of the prey.

I like the glimpses from the last two books about the experiments with Ivy’s DNA and the shifter the enemy scientists are testing/torturing/training…  While each story is a stand-alone, this underlying story builds continuity from one story to the next.  The end is quite startling and left me as the reader salivating for answers, which I hope will come in the next book in the series.

If you like your romance sizzling and your adventures thrilling, then this is definitely a must-read series and story.
