Sandy M’s review of Merry Christmas, Baby (Lucky Harbor, Book 12.5) by Jill Shalvis
Contemporary Romance novella published by Forever Yours 2 Dec 14

Life got so hectic last week during the Christmas holiday, I didn’t have time to let you all know about this lovely novella in Jill Shalvis’ Lucky Harbor series. But that’s okay, because reading Jill Shalvis any time is a treat, even if it’s a Christmas story and the holiday festivities are behind us. This is one of those poignant stories that is doubly emotional because of the time of year when magic and miracles have more meaning. I know Sawyer and Chloe would agree.

I’ve read only a few of the Lucky Harbor series to date, so I’ve not met Sawyer and Chloe before this novella. After spending this little bit of time with them, I want to go back to see if they do have a book of their own, because I’d love to see how they started. Sawyer is the local sheriff and he’s always taken on undercover work, which Chloe has known all along. But now just before Christmas he’s getting ready to go to work again, with a promise to be home for the upcoming holiday party, and, of course, Christmas Day itself. Chloe, however, is not very happy about it all. She’s pregnant, you see, and those hormones are causing a bit of havoc for her, though she’s trying to be supportive and not make the man feel too guilty.

When she doesn’t hear from Saywer and the day of the party draws closer, Chloe takes matters into her own hands – even making a new dress so she’ll feel more festive, and I had to laugh at her ingenuity right under her sister’s nose – and is determined to go to that party no matter what. Her sisters and brothers-in-law try to talk her out of going, the men knowing Sawyer will kick their butts if anything happens to her. Never try talking a pregnant woman out of something she really wants!

Things go a bit wrong in the middle of everything, and I could just see Sawyer looming out of the falling snow to come to Chloe’s rescue. As big a surprise as they get this night, Sawyer has a surprise or two for Chloe too. I just love a hero who does anything and everything for his heroine, to make sure she’s safe and happy.

As usual, Jill Shalvis gives readers an emotional story that strikes at the heart, spreading happiness with every page. I’ve not once been disappointed when I read one of her books. I doubt she has it in her to cause any disappointment, with the characters that live in her imagination, just waiting to be introduced to those of us in romanceland.

Summary:

SEASON’S KISSES

Wild child Chloe Thompson can’t believe how much things have changed. She still can’t get enough of her sexy husband Sawyer, but he seems to prefer working to thinking about impending fatherhood. So tonight, a very pregnant Chloe is escaping her troubles at the town Christmas party.

Sheriff Sawyer Thompson hopes surprising Chloe at the party will give him a chance to set things right. But as the snow begins to fall and the wind rages, he wonders whether he can make it back in time. While mother nature conspires to keep Sawyer and Chloe apart, an unexpected arrival will require them to kiss and make up . . . and ring in the happiest holiday Lucky Harbor has ever seen.
