Veena’s review of Only For You (One Night of Passion, Book 3) by Beth Kery
Erotic Romance published by Berkley 02 Dec 14

When I first discovered Ms. Kery’s books, she rapidly climbed to my top shelf and auto-buy lists. I really enjoyed the emotional connection she forges, along with the wickedly erotic flair, that reels in her readers and keeps them coming back for more. This particular series has been a personal favorite, and I was very excited when I saw that Seth Hightower finally has his story and that he’s destined to be felled by a famous actress. I couldn’t wait, but…

Seth, as we know from before, is recognized as the premier make-up artist in Hollywood, complete with a couple of Oscars to his name. He hates actors and actresses with a passion, even though he earns his livelihood with them. Though until  now we don’t know what’s caused his strong feelings. Regardless, he was a prick when his niece Joy fell in love with an actor, and even knowing that she’s happy in her choice, he still has reservations.  So when he finds out that the most memorable night in his life has been spent with an aspiring actress who is rapidly climbing to the top of her profession, his reaction is pretty inevitable.

Gia’s beauty, her artless charm, and her talent have made her America’s darling. Her strong principles cause her to stand up for justice and provide testimony in a trial that’s purported to generate more headlines than O.J. Simpson. So when it’s deemed that she needs to lay low and disappear from the public eye for a while, who else but Seth Hightower would be called to create a fool-proof disguise. From that point on, as they disappear from the public eye, it’s a sex marathon. Ms. Kery provides a treatise on every which way you can do it and more.

There are some cute scenes where they have dinner with a famous Hollywood producer and his family and Gia’s able to fool them into believing that she’s the character whom she’s portraying. With the baggage they both carry, it seems inevitable that there’s no happy ending in sight, so there’s a bit of angst until her mother and his sister come to the rescue.

I would be interested to know if it’s just me, but I feel with the emphasis on the erotica with more than three-quarters of the book devoted to sexual exploits and the bare bones of a story to qualify it as a romance, the story is missing the key ingredient which first made me a fan.  I just never feel the emotional connection to the characters or the story but watch from afar as it plays out in front of me.

Grade: C

Summary:

Some passions are too hot to disguise…

Former Army intelligence officer Seth Hightower may work with the Hollywood elite as a makeup artist, but he’s learned not to trust the rich and famous with anything more than a good time. Only one woman ever tempted him to break his rules about dating actresses–and she left him with the memory of a single night and a lifetime of what-ifs.

Hollywood “It” girl Gia Harris is used to being in the spotlight. But after she witnesses something that puts her life in danger, she needs to avoid prying eyes. Seth’s special skills make him the perfect person to keep her famous face out of the news, but their history makes him the last person she wants to be alone with. He’s far too tempting–and now, far too close…

As Seth conceals Gia from those who would do her harm, they can’t ignore the blistering attraction between them. And when they give in to their cravings, they reveal more about themselves than either of them has ever laid bare before…
