Veena’s review of A Virgin For His Price (Ruthless Russians, Book 2) by Lucy Monroe
Contemporary Romance published by Harlequin Presents 01 Nov 14

Maxwell Black is allergic to love, but Romi Grayson strikes a chord within him.  She walked away from him once when he couldn’t commit to a relationship with her, but now she’s heiress to a business he wants his hands on. So he’s willing to compromise his principles and commit to the long term. Well, Max might have a few lessons to learn on the way to the altar…

Romi is a great friend and daughter, as we saw in the earlier book in the series. She’s loyal to her father and friends, even if her father’s alcoholism has gotten to a stage that frightens her. When Max manages to persuade her father to seek treatment, she’s extremely grateful, but marriage to a guy who professes that he can’t love is a bit of a long stretch for a girl who wants the loving, happy example that she’s seen in her parents’ marriage.

Max is a crusty, self-made billionaire with a chip on his shoulder, who’s living in his mother’s past, even when she has moved beyond it all. He finds Romi attractive, but since she refuses to fit into the mold he fits his relationships into, he walks away but can’t seem to resist seeking her out. So when he finds out that her best friend has willed her shares in her father’s corporation, all of a sudden he can justify offering Romi the marriage, if not the relationship, that he knows she needs.

I enjoyed the way their relationship built. Romi is a virgin who’s saved herself for the man of her dreams. Max, for a while, seems to meet that criteria, but then they part. Now with their impending marriage of convenience looming, is she doomed to give up her dreams or will Max fall into line? I admire her for standing up for what she believes in and not giving in, when Max coerces her into his way of being, but fights to find his emotional center and bring it alive.

I enjoyed the scenes with the wedding planning and seeing Max evolve as a human being. All in both, the books in the series have been very enjoyable.
