Sandy M’s review of Then Came You (Animal Magnetism, Book 5) by Jill Shalvis
Contemporary Romance published by Berkley 1 Jul 14

I’ve been lamenting the fact lately a few of my faves’ books haven’t worked for me. Kept thinking to myself, is it really the stories or is it me?? With this latest release from Jill Shalvis, the scales have tipped just a tiny bit toward the books instead of me!

I’m always happy to be back with the gang from Belle Haven in Sunshine, Idaho. How I’d love to work and live there!

Wyatt is a vet with the rest of the guys at Belle Haven. They’ve taken on an intern and she’s been paired with Wyatt during the year’s time she’ll be helping out. Emily is biding her time, getting through that year and then the plan is to hightail it back to Los Angeles to take care of celebs’ pets. But when she comes face to face with her immediate boss? Oh, no!!!

It’s definitely a small world. The one time Emily decides to let loose when she’s at a vet conference in Reno, she has the best experience of her life. But guess who that one-night stand was with? Yep, our Wyatt. So the best thing to do, she decides, is to keep it professional. At least as professional as possible. Which is so very impossible for Emily. See, Wyatt has that can’t-my-keep-hands-off-him, love-his-smile effect on her. So she doesn’t keep her hands to herself very often.

Which Wyatt loves. It’s supposed to be a fun-filled, as-much-as-sex-as-we-can-enjoy time between them before Emily goes home, but as he learns more about her, Wyatt wants more. He’s planning to build a home of his own, away from his sisters, and it looks like he wants to share that home with Emily. If he could only ask her to stay. However, the way he grew up, never having any choices, he wants Emily to choose. Him. Over L.A.

I have to say, normally when a heroine stretches her indecision out so long, I get irritated. But in this case, Emily really knows what she wants – okay, subconsciously anyway – and it’s just going to take extra time for her to figure it out. Wyatt isn’t innocent of the not-talking gene, at least when it’s truly needed, but they both have to have their eyes opened for everything to come together. The main reason I don’t get irritated with these characters, of course, is because it’s Jill Shalvis writing them. She’s not let me down once, and you have no idea how much at this point that is appreciated.

Summary:

Veterinary intern Emily can’t believe she wound up in the small town of Sunshine, Idaho, instead of the Los Angeles clinic she had always imagined. Now she has to put her plans to move to L.A. on hold for a whole year while she fulfills the obligation of her vet school scholarship.

Then Wyatt, her gorgeous one-night stand from a Reno vet conference, introduces himself as her new boss. And Emily is just as drawn to his seductive looks and quiet strength as she was on that very steamy night. She soon learns that Wyatt isn’t just a laid-back doctor, but a delicious alpha male tempting her away from her carefully laid-out plans…
