Veena’s review of Slow Seduction (Struck by Lightning, Book 2) by Cecilia Tan
Erotic Romance published by Forever 29 Jan 14

I have definitely become jaded with this genre since this book did not appeal to me on any level. I joyfully read and reviewed Fifty Shades here at The Pond a couple of years ago. I still remember how much I enjoyed my journey with the characters as I read the books in the half light of an airplane traveling half way across the world. This book for me is neither romantic nor erotic, such that I stopped and started it multiple times, eventually abandoning it completely well before I was finished.

Karina is in London in search of James. She’s there on a summer internship with a prestigious museum. She’s obsessed with finding James, who appears to be both a performer and an artist who’s taken her world by storm but has disappeared on her. Karina is willing to do anything, including letting rich Damon George train her as a submissive, to help her find the elusive James.

Damon clearly is not hero material in Karina’s mind at all or even in my mind. He appears to have a hidden agenda from the get-go, even though Karina makes it clear to him that she’s searching for James and he’s just a means to that end. He’s rich, arrogant, and egocentric and I am sure that it galls him to be relegated to second place. I think it would be interesting to see their relationship develop as he takes her under his command, but, unfortunately, I could not summon any sparks and just abandoned the book before I got even halfway through.

Grade: DNF

Summary:

Two months have passed since James went into hiding. Karina finds herself in England, working at a major museum while searching for any lead on James’s whereabouts. There she meets the enigmatic Damon George, a dominant man with clues to James’s past… and to James’s desires. Damon is rich, gorgeous, and a member of a secret society that caters to the sensual thrills of the wealthy and powerful. And he’ll help Karina lure James in, while teaching her how to please a dominant man. By the time she finds James, Karina has been “trained” to please another. Will James reject her, or find her more irresistible than ever? Karina is determined to confront him and she will not be denied.
