Book Cover Veena’s review of Since I Saw You (Because You Are Mine, Book 4) by Beth Kery
Erotic Romance published by Berkley 06 May 14

Kam Reardon and Lin Soong are like oil and water and yet the attraction between them is so blazing hot that it burns the pages of this book with the sheer force of the raw emotion and sexuality exuded by both protagonists. Their first meeting leads them without much ado to Lin’s bed, where Kam introduces her to his brand of domination, releasing something long hidden deep within her psyche to serve as a launching pad for an erotic journey which will lead them far beyond the mere physical.

Kam arrives in Chicago at the urging of his half brother, business mogul Ian Noble, to explore raising funds to launch his state-of-the-art biofeedback invention. Lin Soong, his brother’s brilliant right hand and rainmaker in her own right, is assigned to help him navigate the complexities of the business world. From the first he’s fascinated by her unearthly beauty and grace, while she’s drawn to his close resemblance to his brother, whom she’s loved from afar for most of her life. Kam is a dominant and a sensualist. He explores his desires with Lin, leading her on an erotic journey where he successfully blends pleasure and pain to release her inner fires such that she’s burning hot just for him.

As their physical relationship progresses, they also become more intimate, sharing the true essence of the life events that have shaped them into who they are today. The love between Kam and his dog Angus and his heartbreaking stories of how he was afraid of showing love and affection to anyone in case his father found out and used it to control him show an inner strength of character and capacity to love. Will Lin be able to tap into this and free him to love as she deserves?  Her own fears of abandonment after her parents left her at the young age of eight to relocate to China, leaving her with her much beloved grandmother, who, in turn, passed, leaving her alone in the world have inhibited her ability to forge a meaningful relationship, her unrequited love for Ian Noble is perhaps another attempt by her psyche to keep her safe from emotional trauma. Can Kam make her smooth serenity melt beneath the force of his love and release the true heart of Lin Soong?

The science of Kam’s invention and its protocol, along with other elements, add depth to the story that takes it beyond mere erotica. I don’t read science journals, so I hope something like this is under development someplace and not just a figment of Ms. Kery’s imagination.  The true heart of this story, however, is the bond that binds two wary and hurt characters and allows them to open their hearts to each other and find that special something.

One word of caution: please read the earlier books in the series if you haven’t done so, because while you could enjoy it without reading them, you will really ENJOY them after reading those first.

Grade: B

Summary:

In the “exceptionally hot” (USA Today) Because You Are Mine, Beth Kery redefined what’s possible, what’s desirable, and what’s forbidden between a man and a woman.

It’s time to go further… When enigmatic billionaire Ian Noble sets Lin the task of “taming” his brilliant yet half-savage brother Kam Reardon, she eagerly accepts. She’s more than curious about the solitary genius and everything she’s heard about him. During their electric first meeting, her fascination increases a hundredfold. Kam practically oozes raw sex appeal. Lin is interested…very interested. But does her intense attraction and willingness to go places with him she’s never gone before in the bedroom really have to do with Kam? Or is her carefully hidden desire to blame for wanting a man she knows she can never have?

An elusive outsider, Kam avoids intimacy, yet never shies away from satisfying his erotic appetites. But there’s something different about Lin—a reserve he’s anxious to break. She’s a woman he’s eager to take his time with…and possess completely. A sophisticated beauty like her would never want him anywhere but in bed, but he finds himself unable to resist her.

Immediately Lin’s smooth facade is undone by Kam’s overwhelming masculinity and by his irresistible erotic demands—a lesson in subjugation that leaves Lin confused, reeling, and open to things she never thought possible. Now, as the unpredictable nights between them grow darker, Lin and Kam are certain of only one thing: they’re made for each other.
