Veena’s review of What the Greeks Money Cant Buy (The Untameable Greeks, Book 1) by Maya Blake
Contemporary Romance published by Harlequin Presents 01 Apr 14

Maya Blake presents a well-researched story which engaged me from the get-go.  The story flows well and has the right mix of romance and intrigue.  I was lost in the author’s make-believe world for the entire time it took me to read the story cover to cover.  I will definitely be looking for more books from Ms. Blake, particularly the rest of this series.

Disasters have a way of stripping away the masks people wear and revealing the raw emotions that hide under the surface. Sakis Pantilides definitely has an epic disaster on his hands when one of his oil tankers runs aground in the South Atlantic and begins to pump oil in the water. As he and his trusty right hand, Briana Moneypenny, fly to the scene of the disaster, they connect at a visceral level way below the attraction that has simmered between them and kept under the lid of their professional facades.

Being a fan of James Bond I get quite the kick out of Brianna’s last name. Of course, it’s interesting to see that she re-invented herself after her life went into free fall and Sakis had the sense to look behind the resume to get himself an invaluable right hand. I quite enjoy how Briana guides Sakis into leveraging the tools of the modern era, like the press and social media, to reach out to the public and showcase his efforts to do what is necessary to help restore ecological balance to the affected area.

Briana’s past rears up and takes center stage into the present, creating a huge conflict between her and Sakis. Our intrepid heroine, however, is beaten but not defeated and comes back fighting. Sakis might be a billionaire, but he’s got his own vulnerabilities and share of baggage from his growing years. These come into play especially when he’s trying to balance the emotions he feels towards Brianna. The author does a great job of building the relationship between him and his brothers, and I can’t wait to read more about them.

Grade: B+
