Veena’s review of Dragos Takes a Holiday (Elder Races, Book 6.5) by Thea Harrison
Paranormal Romance Published by Thea Harrison 16 Nov 13

The past year has been a tough one for Dragos, dragon lord of the Wyr. He’s found the love of his life and does she ever soften out all these rough edges, and then he’s become a father which has almost made marshmallow out of him. On the flip side, his demesne has had its share of challenges, what with losing his sentinels as they’ve mated and moved away and then choosing new ones, not to speak about the adventures along the way. Knowing that he and his family need a break, he decides on a few days off until he can get away for a proper vacation. Ms. Harrison does an excellent job with these short interludes into her world, giving us glimpses into the lives of her characters beyond the HEA, as well as meeting new characters who round off and add to the enjoyment.

Pia has been strongly hinting about getting away and she subtly leaves clues in Dragos’ path about lost treasure, knowing the fascination that dragons have with treasure. So off they go to Bermuda for a short seaside vacation with the bonus of treasure hunting.

Peanut, or Liam, plays a big role in this story. He’s growing fast even for his young age and he also learns how to shift into his dragon. I can see lots of adventures for Dragos and Pia in the future, having raised my two children through finding their feet. I can’t imagine what it will be like to deal with wings as well. Or, well, I can imagine since Peanut flies out the open window and disappears, much to the fear and dismay of his parents who are out for a date night.

I thoroughly enjoyed this glimpse of Peanut, whom we last met as he was born, and now he’s walking and flying. I can just see all the mischief he’s going to get into. Pia and Dragos are still as much in love as they ever were, and you see the bonds getting tighter and closer. And let’s not forget the adventure of finding lost treasure and dealing with other contenders for the same.

Grade: A

Summary:

The Bermuda Triangle. Pirates. The Peanut. What could possibly go wrong?

Dragos Cuelebre needs a vacation. So does Pia, his mate. When the First Family of the Wyr head to Bermuda for some much needed R&R, it’s no ordinary undertaking – and no ordinary weekend in the sun. Between hunting for ancient treasure buried beneath the waves and keeping track of their son, Liam—a.k.a. Peanut, whose Wyr abilities are manifesting far ahead of schedule—it’s a miracle that Pia and Dragos can get any time together.

They’re determined to make the most of each moment, no matter who tries to get in their way.

And did we mention pirates?
