A professional matchmaker with a touch of magic to help connect two souls who are meant to be together happily ever after. A workaholic divorce lawyer who lives with the ugly truth of what happens when the magic fades. An absolutely lovable, crippled dog that is not averse to nudging things along to connect his destined mommy and daddy. And a great cast of secondary characters to add to a fun, lighthearted escape from the humdrum of everyday reality.

Kate Seymour runs a matchmaking agency with her two best friends. She has that special something, a magic touch that tells her when people have a connection and when they don’t. Her biggest challenge is to find the right match for herself. According to her sex therapist mother, the problem is that she’s repressed and closed in, causing her problems in finding the right emotional connection. That doesn’t, however, stop the sparks when she connects with Slade Montgomery.

Slade has an up-close and personal relationship to what happens when the rose-colored glasses fall off and life becomes a fighting slinging match to get the most from a divorce settlement. The only person in his life he cares for is his sister, who struggles to keep on living after her relationship ends. Now his vulnerable sister has fallen prey to an unscrupulous matchmaking agency. What else is there to do but to use his considerable clout as a lawyer and expose them as frauds?

Challenged to show Slade that she runs a legitimate business, Kate signs him on as a client and takes him through their process of finding his perfect match. I find the whole approach to matchmaking very novel with the fashion makeover, yoga and exercise regimen, and the approaches to meeting people. Maybe if there is such an agency in my vicinity, I might be tempted to sign on as well. But Kate and Slade, regardless of the near perfect matches and dates, why do they keep gravitating back to each other? And the sparks continue to fly almost like an electric current and the sex is off the charts. They couldn’t be destined to be together, could they?

Their path to true romance is aided and abetted by her friends and partners, his sisters, her mother and her only other family – a disabled dog. Of course, there are things that short circuit the path to true romance. The relationship building is superb. Her pet and the love that she shares with him and the connection that Slade forms as well really touch my heart. Of course, the final kicker for me is when the angst is over and he needs to prove that he truly loves her, his approach is unique, to say the least, but also heartwarming.

All the characters in this book are fully fleshed out, three-dimensional characters who the reader forges a relationship with. The secondary romance with Slade’s sister adds to the overall story. I can’t wait to see Kate’s other friends find their own happily ever afters.

Grade: A

Summary:

Kate has given up on love—at least for herself. She is both blessed and cursed with the ability to sense a romantic connection between two people—a gift that her family passed down for generations. When Kate launches her own matchmaking company, Kinnection, with her two best friends in a cozy New York town, she has to put aside her own romantic disasters to make her business a success.

But when a furious man stalks into her office and accuses her business of being a scam, Kate is given the ultimate challenge to prove herself. Slade puts himself in her hands and asks Kate to find him love. Enraged at his arrogance but stubbornly eager to prove herself, Kate agrees, dedicating herself to the journey of finding him love…only to find herself falling for him along the way.
