Sandy M’s review of The Cop Who Stole Christmas (Tall, Hot Texan, Book 2) by Christie Craig
Contemporary Romance ebook published by Amazon Digital Services 26 Nov 13

It’s been so long since I’ve read Christie Craig. What a shame! Because she gives a reader everything and more in her books. Humor, romance, mystery, suspense, quirky characters, love, and did I say humor? I always laugh out loud when I read Ms. Craig. Always. Never fails. I also always fall in love with her heroes and heroines. Her heroes are Texan and sexy and her heroines are spunky, sassy, and intelligent. A win-win every time.

Savanna is not having a good day. As she’s relaxing at home she discovers Santa – Santa of all people! – repossessing her car. It has to be her jerk of an ex-husband who’s gotten her into trouble again. Not making any headway with Santa with her explanations and pleading, Savanna makes her way across the street to her neighbor who’s a cop. I have to say, I agree with her logic in doing so, but you know the government and rules, so that darned man is nearly as bad as Santa. He’s just sexier.

Having had an eye on Savanna for months now and wishing he could really help her, Mark has to let Jolly Old Saint Nick take her car. Not much he can do otherwise, so he advises her if she ever has a dead body around, that’s something he can assist her with. Not wanting to get any more involved, he gets back to business until Savanna comes banging on his door again, this time in a panic. He never anticipated that she really would have a dead body on her kitchen floor.

So in between all of the goings-on from Santa to murder to investigation and resolution of said murder, there’s wonderfully humorous banter between Mark and Savanna and between each of them and their respective friends. There’s that slow, sensuous slide into lust and then romance and love, despite the fact they each have hesitation and doubts in the beginning. I like that they talk to one another, are basically upfront about their feelings and fears, and they build a trust between before they realize where it’s all going to end. The Christmas theme is nice too, even though Santa doesn’t have much holiday spirit.

This is vintage Christie Craig. If you’ve not read her, you’re really missing out. A lot.

Summary:

It’ll take a tall, hot Texan and a little holiday spirit to mend a broken heart and catch a Christmas killer…

Savanna Edwards is feeling downright Scrooge-like. Who can blame her? A truly unjolly Santa — suit, beard and all — just repossessed her car because of her ex’s shady business dealings. She’d like to murder the no-good-lying cheat, but somebody already did that for her – and left him right in the middle of her kitchen, wrapped up with a bow.

Detective Mark Donaldson has a rule against getting involved with his neighbors. He can look – and he’s studied every sweet curve of Savanna from across the street – but he can’t touch. So when she lands on his doorstep in need of help, he finds himself torn between being naughty or nice, and fights every urge to unwrap her like a shiny new Christmas present.Trouble is… even Mark can’t resist a little holiday magic…and there’s definitely something magical happening between him and the girl next door.
