Book CoverVeena’s review of Knight’s Temptress (Lairds of the Loch, Book 2) by Amanda Scott
Historical Romance published by Forever 27 Aug 13

Amanda Scott does an excellent job at skillfully blending the history of the times with the story that she wants to tell to bring the period alive. I’m a history buff and I thoroughly enjoy Ms Scott’s books because of her attention to historical detail. Since this book is a continuation of one earlier in the series, you really need to start from the beginning to enjoy it.
Lachina MacFarlane is the middle sister. She has her own gifts and talents and she definitely puts them to good use to try to plot her escape when she is taken a prisoner by her father’s enemies. Fortunately rescue is close at the hands of handsome Lord Ian Colquhoun.

We first met Ian when he shamelessly flirts with Lachina’s older sister Adreena on her honeymoon trip and ends up in the cold loch for his efforts. He appealed to me as a mischievous rogue and a thorough reprobate then. So it’s hardly surprising that he would disguise himself as a lowly servant and find his way into one of the most fortified castles in Scotland to rescue the fair ladies held prisoner there.

Lachina is surprisingly the calming influence to his impulsive behavior and heedless rushing into danger. She is not necessarily as cautious when her beloved mother seems to be in danger and manages to get herself in a fine pickle, which requires his help and rescue again. She does manage to teach this indomitable and fearless knight the taste of fear in the process.

As their relationship grows and evolves through mutual admiration into a political marriage and then into love, it is great to see the two characters also maturing and growing and becoming more responsible.

The author still keeps the supernatural element alive in this series with Lachina’s gift of sight. It is, however, interesting that her first major revelation is on her wedding night in the midst of you know what. Hmm I guess young Ian did not hold all his wife’s attentions.

Grade: B
