Book Cover Dinca’s review of A Father’s Secret by Yvonne Lindsay
Contemporary Romance published Harlequin Desire 2 Oct 12

This is a very emotional read. Both the hero and heroine have their own set of unique miseries that bond them together. I never managed to like the hero, but I find it an interesting storyline and I completed the book cheering for the heroine all the way.

I continued reading this book hoping the hero would grow on me. From the get-go I don’t care for him at all. His behavior is underhanded and deceitful. All through the book he talks about being a better person, but he never convinces me that’s ever going to happen. All of his actions are self-serving, even when he is doing the right thing. It appears he always does them for his own benefit. I think it takes a lot of nerve for Sam to accuse Erin of being deceitful when he’s not upfront from the beginning. He goes to her under false pretenses and even enters into a relationship with her without being upfront about who he is and why he’s there.

Recently widowed Erin Connell and new mother to baby Riley received a letter from the fertility clinic saying there was a mistake and her baby may not be her deceased husband’s child. Her husband’s family trust has made it clear Connolly Lodge has to be handed down to a blood descendent. Erin and her child stand to lose everything. After her husband’s death and the birth of her son, Erin takes on her first guest at the lodge. Although her marriage was not good, she is stunned by her attraction to her guest Sam Thornton.

There are several reasons for my grade of this review. The number one reason is I have to like the characters and I just do not like the hero one bit. Sam Thornton would be someone I would fight down to my last dollar. Baby Riley deserves a lot more of Sam’s blood and money. The author has really put poor Erin through an emotional whirlwind. I think a better title for the story would have been For A Mother’s Love, instead of giving Sam more credit than he’s worth.
