Book CoverSandy M’s review of Undone (The Amoveo Legend, Book 4) by Sara Humphreys
Paranormal Romance published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 7 May 13

Unfortunately for me, I’ve so far read only the first book in this series. Because I’m a huge shapeshifter fan, Sara Humphreys has created a world perfect for a reader like me. So it’s all my fault that I’ve missed some good books by getting so behind in my reading. But that doesn’t mean it needs to happen to you! If you haven’t started this series yet, now is a good time – and start at the beginning for some terrific shifting stories.

The one thing I really like in the series is Ms. Humphreys hasn’t restricted her Amoveo world to only wolves, cats and the usual beasts you get in shapeshifter books. There’s also birds of prey, foxes, and now bears as we meet Marianna, an unmated, pureblood Amoveo who shifts into a Kodiak bear. Her father and brother Dante, a fox, are among those fighting the purists, those who want to eradicate hybrids – shifters born of Amoveo and human parents. Marianna so far has stayed out of the exhausting fight, but there are those who will pull her into it with no qualms whatsoever.

Thus we meet Pete, an ex-cop and security specialist who works with Marianna’s brother in his security firm. Dante wants Marianna protected and Pete’s the man for the job. He may initially disagree with that, taking care of a partier is not his idea of time well spent. Especially when the woman does the opposite of what he needs her to do or just does crazy things when he ticks her off. And I have to say, I agree with Pete on that. It took a bit for Marianna to grow on me – she’s a thirty-year-old woman who acts like she’s twelve, all because she doesn’t like to be told what to do. Even when she realizes Pete is her mate, she keeps her nose out of joint when it should be a happy, beautiful time for her, after thinking she probably would never find her mate at this late date.

But Marianna gets her age and her mind back when Pete gets serious about her safety. Magically restricting the use of her abilities, Pete takes Marianna to an isolated cabin to keep her away from the purists who have begun an outrageous project of forcing procreation between Amoveo who aren’t mates. Of course, being alone is the best thing for these two to get to know one another, and these are some of the best scenes in the book. This is also where Pete finds out who his father is, which comes as a huge surprise, never thinking in a million years his background/life would come any closer to the otherworldly than Marianna and the Amoveo.

Though they get their relationship on track, that’s when all goes to hell. The purists find Marianna, taking her to their lair where their plans will definitely go forward if Pete and Dante, along with other Amoveo, can’t track her in time. Timing and efficient planning is all they can do, hoping it’s enough to save Marianna and other women who have disappeared. There’s plenty of action in this last quarter of the book, but tragic results may end things for Pete and Marianna before they can truly get started.

Once again, Sara Humphreys has given readers a story for the imagination, sprinkled with danger and romance, and characters who would die for each other. So they know how to grab on to life and live it to the fullest. Be sure to read this series. It will take you away for a few fun and fanciful hours, just like it’s supposed to.
