Book CoverDinca’s review of Waking Up Married by Mira Lyn Kelly
Contemporary Romance published by Harlequin Kiss 1 Dec 12

Harlequin Kiss is a new contemporary romance category. Waking Up Married is currently a free download from Amazon. This is a delightful short story, a bit on the funny side with a surprise ending. Ms. Kelly has developed a new take on an old storyline, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I thought this was going to be a very funny story. The personalities of the main characters are very vibrant and rich in their makeup. Ms. Kelly has created two very functional, yet dysfunctional, hero and heroine. Their personalities are so exact, it is hard to believe they could ever accept love if it stared them in the face.

Megan Scott has given up on love, but she still wants a family. So she has decided to go to a sperm bank to have a baby. While at her cousin’s wedding, her family is not exactly accepting of the idea and is giving her a really bad time about it. At the suggestion of her cousins, she approaches a guy in the bar just to have a way to leave the scene.

After having his marriage plans fall through, Connor Reed meets a friend in Vegas, where he’s approached by Megan Scott. She is upfront with him about trying to placate her relatives and looking for a way out. Carter throws in a few conditions of his own while helping her out, and they leave together.

For two young people who are ready set in their ways, it’s hard to believe they could ever make it as a couple. Yet they do, so the rest is history as the story unfolds. Since it’s a short story, I don’t want to say too much and give the storyline away. I find this an enjoyable read and will be looking forward to more from Harlequin in this new KISS category.

I do feel the story could have been expanded into a full novel. There is one thing that could’ve made this story better – an epilogue with them having a baby, a little boy who they named Carter.
