Book CoverVeena’s review of Ten Reasons to Stay (School for Heiresses, Book 3) by Sabrina Jefferies
Historical Romance ebook novella reissued by Pocket Star 06 May 13

So what does an heiress, who is also a horse thief, have in common with an earl, who is half Indian? Regardless of how many reasons one can offer, there is only one that counts.

Eliza Crenshawe is an heiress who is beaten and imprisoned by her guardian as he forces her into an arranged marriage. Our intrepid heroine manages to escape and finds a horse from the stables of the halfblood Colin Hunt, the Earl of Monteith.

Colin is determined to make a place for himself in this corner of England, and where he would otherwise have helped Eliza, now he is afraid that her presence threatens his security. He holds her his prisoner as he tries to get to the bottom of the truth. This is a short story which moves at a rapid pace with surprisingly well-developed characters. Once he is convinced of the truth, he is determined to win Eliza to wife.

Once Colin is determined to win Eliza, he proposes reason after reason why she should stay with him forever. Well, it takes ten before he hits on the right one.

I have read a lot of Sabrina Jefferies’ romances, and while I do not recall meeting them in other books, I find both of these characters delightful. A short, fun read.

Grade: B

Summary:

Eliza Crenshawe’s lesson is to look before she leaps. But when she discovers that her new guardian plans to marry her off without so much as a Season, she forgets all that. She flees – on a horse she unwittingly steals (oops!) – from Colin Hunt, a newly minted earl who wants nothing more than for her to go home…or stay forever.
