Book CoverDinca’s review of Mason (The Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch, Book 6)by Delores Fossen
Romance published by Harlequin Intrigue 3 July 2012

The action starts on page one and continues to the very end, wrapping up all the loose ends of the different brothers’ stories. So if this is your first book in The Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch series, back up and start with Grayson. You won’t want to miss this action-filled series brought to you by Delores Fossen.

Mason Ryland is the last man standing, single that is. He’s not only a lawman like his five brothers, he’s responsible for the family ranch. Now someone has tried to harm his new horse trainer. When he finds she has been in witness protection since she was a kid, as a lawman he understands why she didn’t mention it to him. What Mason cannot wrap his head around is that she has a connection with his father, Boone, who abandoned the siblings and their mother. His growing desire for Abbie is fraught with black-hearted hatred for his father. Just knowing that at she has had a father’s love the whole time Boone has been gone adds to the tension between them.

After years of living in the witness protection program, Abbie Baker tries to find answers and the Ryland family. You would think that living on a ranch with six law enforcement officers would be a safe place.  When the brothers discover her connection with their father, the ranch turns very unfriendly. She doesn’t know who to trust. All she knows is someone left her in a burning house to die. She doesn’t know where to put her trust, but she finds the heart goes where it wants and that seems to be heading straight for Mason Ryland.

The Rylands are all caught up in trying to find out who wants the family dead, starting with Abbie, and since she is not a Ryland they try to figure out how she made it to the top of the hit list. All the villains from the previous books in the series come into play in this dramatic conclusion of series. This can very well be read as a standalone book, but for the full effect I would recommend reading the whole series from the beginning. This is the first series where all my reviews have received an “A” grade. Ms. Fossen has done a wonderful job with characterization and suspense throughout. The first book is just as thrilling as the last.

Summary:

It wasn’t the first time danger had come to his ranch, but for Deputy Mason Ryland it was the final straw. Someone had been targeting his family for too long and the brooding lawman now had a new person to protect: horse trainer Abbie Baker.

His newest employee’s arrival suspiciously coincided with the latest attack, and it wasn’t long before he uncovered a decades-old secret between Abbie and the Ryland clan. But as much as that connection rankled, Mason couldn’t ignore the fact that someone wanted beautiful Abbie dead. As an upholder of the law, he’d keep her safely tucked by his side through the investigation. As a man, he’d offer his personal protection through the endless summer nights.…
