Dinca’s review of Kade (The Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch, Book 4) by Delores Fossen
Contemporary Romance published by Harlequin Intrigue 3 Jul 12

What a way to start a book and get the reader hooked. If you want something different with a surprise ending, this is the book for you. Ms. Fossen has another suspense-filled adventure for the Ryland brothers. I do feel she has a one-up-em on the child-bearing theme for the brothers. If you have liked the others, you will enjoy Kade’s tale as well.

Kade is called to the Silver Creek Hospital and learns that he is the father to an abandoned baby, according to a DNA test. He never even had the pleasure of having sex nine months ago. He had been on an undercover mission with another FBI agent at a fertility clinic. He’s not even sure of her real name. During the mission he called her Bree. Since she is the only woman he had been around nine months ago, Kade sets out to find her, only to learn she has been missing since the time they worked together on the fertility clinic surveillance op. Locating her starts the fireworks and it doesn’t let up until the very end.

Bree’s first appearance in the story is waking up in a cheap motel room, drugged, and someone banging on her door. She remembers little to nothing as she is running for her life with a man she has very vague recollections of. A man who just told her she is the mother of his child. As the drugs wear off and her memory returns, the story unfolds into another exciting plot. Ms. Fossen has a way of keeping you guessing who the bad guys are right up to the very end. Just when you suspect he may be framed after all.

I read this on my Iphone and did not see the cover up close until I started the review. The marketing department really blew it on this one. Ms. Fossen gets an A, marketing gets a big fat failure. Nowhere in the story do you read about what is on the cover of the book.

Summary:

One look at the baby girl, and there was no question Kade Ryland was the father. For three months, Kade had posed as Bree Winston’s husband at the Fulbright Fertility Clinic, while the two FBI agents investigated a trail of illegal adoptions and surrogates. Nine months later, a baby was dropped at his feet—and Bree was nowhere to be found. Now Kade had to reopen a case that had gotten way too personal and find Bree—fast. But if the two of them had never been a real couple, were they ready to be parents? Whatever the answer, Kade now had more than one reason to close this case once and for all.
