Sandy M’s review of Blind Destiny (Grimm’s Circle, Book 7) by Shiloh Walker
Paranormal Romance published by Samhain 16 Oct 12

Shiloh Walker is one of those authors who always surprises, always intrigues, and always satisfies no matter what she writes. Point in fact for a reader who’s reading her Grimm’s Circle series for the first time at Book No. 7. There’s no confusion in the story line or characters, and Luc and Sina are definitely intriguing. The story is dark, leading both characters to look inward and toward the future, all the while fighting an evil that refuses to die.

Luc and Sina are both Grimm, guardian angels, Sina one of the oldest. She even trained Luc ages before when he died and then became Grimm. Sina is also in love with Luc, has been for some time. But he’s still got a thing for his ex, so she avoids as much contact with him as possible, vowing to love him from afar. Unfortunately, Will, head of the Grimm, has been ordered to send them both to Sina’s old stomping grounds to take care of trouble there. She’d really rather not go there again, it’s a place of pain and death. The Seven Bloody Sisters are coming back to haunt her.

Though Luc is blind, the one thing he can see is this place and their job is tearing Sina apart. She wants to do everything but the job, but he makes her stay the course. I love Luc. His sense of humor is terrific, especially in such dire circumstances. His affinity for animals is wonderful, and the way he can see through his service dog’s, Krell, eyes – as well as anyone else’s who gives permission – is so creative. With his attraction to Sina, he has to face the fact he no longer loves his ex, and those love scenes between him and Sina are hot and intense.

The evil penetrating Sina’s old Greek home is now making its presence known outside the house as well as inside. Sina discovers her error when she left the house before, and now others have suffered. The way she and Luc begin to work together amid the intensity between them and the evil around them is wonderfully done. The action in the home near the end is fraught with danger and surprise. I do wish I’d read the book where Luc and Sina appeared before, to see how things began for them leading up to this assignment, but I still get the essence of both characters.

The secondary characters are also well-written, especially Will. Luc is at a point where he cares not for what anyone thinks, even Will and will wait him out to get what he wants every time. Crow is also an interesting character, one who would make a great hero in his own book. As an animal lover, I enjoyed Krell, and though he doesn’t talk to us, of course, we still learn his feelings through Luc. Their relationship is true and respectful.

I’m sorry this is my first book in the Grimm’s Circle series. From this story I know I’m missing some fascinating reads. Shiloh Walker pulls me in with her characters, keeps me enveloped in her stories, moves me with every imaginable emotion, and grips me with action and danger by unexpected villains. You can’t ask for much more than that in a book.

Summary:

Myrsina knows the stories. As one of the oldest of the Grimm, she had a hand in writing most of them, but only she knows the dark origin of the Seven Bloody Sisters. It springs from the place of her birth—and her death. A place of pain and misery to which she plans to never return. Unless forced.

When Luc appears on her doorstep, her heart twists with suppressed longing for the man who can never be hers. The only man who can make her do the impossible—go home.

Luc may be blind, but through their unique, bittersweet connection, even he can see that the task laid before them is ripping Sina’s soul apart. This time it isn’t as simple as fighting a demon that has escaped from the netherplains.

Sina must go back in time—to that cursed ground—and right a wrong that she unknowingly brought about. To write a new ending to a story that may give them both a chance at happily ever after. Assuming they survive.
