Aloha! I loved LYON'S BRIDE (Book 1) - it introduces the curse and its impact on the eldest, Lord Lyon, even from childhood. At the end, we learn more about Harry, specifically, why he is an addicted alcoholic womanizer. Yet his brother's love motivates him to ... Scotland. I also loved THE SCOTTISH WITCH - Harry humbles himself first in front of the witch and then at the end in front of the village as you mention.

I don't recall the previous generations having loved, then died. I thought it was Harry's father, who married for love after being widowed, that reminded Neal, Harry, and Margaret of the curse.

I enjoyed the hint of paranormal to challenge the reader - is it real or imagined? I can tell you that each book has a different prologue (as Maxwell included the prologue of THE DEVIL'S HEART in the back of THE SCOTTISH WITCH). The three prologues give us a different perspective - Finella, Rose, and finally Charles. I am looking forward to THE DEVIL'S HEART as Margaret struggles to reverse the curse.
