Satire is the one thing a lot of people love. They love to hate stuff and make fun of it whether it’s tongue in cheek or not. My daughter had a Twilight spoof on her blog for awhile that was really popular. She spoofed the author’s bad writing, poor dialog, weak characters and inane plot. She got tons of fan mail for it. But it wore on her to write it. It became a chore for her and with her college courses ramping up, she gave it up.

And you’re so right right about all of it. I’ve been on the net since 1994 and seen a lot. (I had a class in BASIC many many years ago!) So I do some serious eye-rolling over the behavior of people on the net sometimes. I wish there was an easy way to figure out the trends and what works and what promo has the most value but I guess it’s just not quantifiable. Meanwhile, I’ll just do what I can handle and if it means I’m never a star, well then, I’ll just be as good as I can be in the midlist ranks.

yes, sigh, someone emailed me about it. Yes, it was a satire, and if you’re British, you’ll recognize shades of “East Enders,” too.
I decided a while back I won’t game. It probably condemns me to midlist forever, because there’s no doubting that a little gaming can help an author, but I don’t want to do it. If I get there, I want to do it right. That doesn’t mean that I don’t do any promotion for my own books, of course! I have to do some, otherwise people wouldn’t know about it.
A shame about Yahoo groups. Perhaps one day they’ll come right.

Lynne, I enjoyed this post. It has made me “ponder” some things I haven’t considered in a while and underlined some conclusions I had already formed. For instance, I used to be in a lot of YahooGroups, but I realized today that i have not checked in with the one or two I am still subscribed to. Most I unsubscribed a couple of years ago.

Second, the “tagging” thing is really annoying. It has become very prevalent on Facebook too lately. I check in to see what is being posted by “friends” and see that this author is plugging another’s book and vice versa. It feels a lot like a commercial break when you’re watching TV.

Lastly, about your 50 Shades post- that was satire, right? And yet someone has offered to publish it if you developed it further? Just to capitalize on BDSM lite? Seriously? I went back and re-read it just to be sure. (Yes, definitely tongue in cheek.)
