After a long-term relationship ends, Rylann Pierce moves back to Chicago and a position in the US Attorney’s Office – a change of location and a return to old friends might be just the thing to get her new life going. Her very first assignment sends her to court to handle the resolution of some charges against “the Twitter Terrorist.” (An aside – I LOL! I love me some Twitter and that it weaves its way through the story made me giggle so much. :-D) Little does Rylann know said Terrorist is billionaire heir/computer geek Kyle Rhodes…the very same Kyle Rhodes she spetd a flirtatious evening with years before.
Kyle is just glad to finally be getting free of house arrest – which was much better than his time in prison, sure. The last person he expects to see representing the prosecution is Rylann. Circumstances kept him from keeping their date all those years ago (she knew what happened, don’t fret, faithful reader) and they never found each other again – he didn’t even know her last name, for crying out loud.
The old spark is still there but Rylann is the new person in her office and still finding her place – a relationship with the defendant of a very high-profile case could be awkward. Plus she is just out of a long-term relationship. But…hot billionaire heir? Who can resist that?? Also, umm…
Where were we, faithful reader? I got distracted for a minute.
Kyle is ready to get his life back on track. He had lots of time to think and plan in prison and now it’s time to put those plans into action. Does he have time for a relationship after his last one imploded in a spectacular fashion and landed him in jail? Rylann will have to be pretty convincing…
I so enjoyed this book! It is my favorite of Ms. James’ books so far – and I have liked them all. Kyle is a genuinely good guy. He wants to do the right thing and make his own way and has matured a lot since we first met him in A Lot Like Love. Rylann’s job is very important to her but not to the exclusion of everything else – she makes time for her friends and for herself. It is nice to see a romance between two realistic characters – people who, if we knew them in real life, we would want together. This book is charming and an all-around fun read.

I thought Kyle was a terrific hero. There was just something so likeable about him, especially how Kyle helped his father out during a terrible time. Julie James’ books are also wonderful in the way in which they portray friendship. No one does dialogue/witty repartee better than this author. The scenes between Kyle and his sister and Kyle and almost everone else were funny. I keep trying to guess the hero of her next book and my money is on either Cade or Dex. I’m leaning towards Cade. I think Wilkins will remain a secondary character and since Jon just broke up with Rylann, I don’t think he’d be paired with another Assistant US Attorney or FBI agent in the next book.
My comment didn’t post, so I’ll try it again. I really enjoyed this book. Kyle is such a likeable character, especially how he helped his father through such a difficult time. Kyle’s banter with his sister and almost everyone else in the book is just so funny. The banter is always so quick and witty. Julie James also does a terrific job in portraying friendships – whether male or female. As for the hero of the next book, my money is on Cade or Dex. I think Wilkins will remain a secondary character and I don’t think Jon would be paired off with another Assistant US Attorney after just breaking up with Rylann.
For some reason, my comments haven’t posted, so I’ll try again. I really enjoyed this book. Kyle is a wonderful, witty and fun character. I especially liked how he took care of his father during a difficult time. It showed his true decency. He also had such funny scenes with Jordan and Rylann. Julie James writes great secondary characters and friendships. They always seem like real people, not caricatures. Finally, I think the hero of the next book is probably Cade, but I wouldn’t mind Dex. I’ve eliminated Wilkins and Jon from contention. I believe Wilkins will remain a secondary character and since Jon just broke up with Rylann, I don’t see him being paired off with another US Attorney.
Hi Kim – Sometimes Zee Pond is temperamental like that. We shall blame Sybil because she is busy elsewhere and will never know. 😉 I agree about Kyle – he is my favorite character Julie has written. I enjoyed this book so much.
I wonder if it is too early to start whining at Julie asking who the next book is about? Hmm…
