Once Upon a Reviewer: Lawson

The Bride
Once upon a time a young rabid reader named Lawson was searching for something good to read. Being young at the time, dear Lawson did not have many choices for books. One day her mother handed her Julie Garwood‘s The Bride to read, being a conscientious mother and not really wanting to have “the talk” with her young daughter.

After this first educational read, a romance reader was born! Since then I have read many books, both good and bad, but loved every minute of it.
Betrothal
Over the years I have fallen in love with historical, paranormal, fantasy/sci-fi, and contemporary romance. Authors such as Nora Roberts, Julia Quinn, Lisa Kleypas, Eloisa James, Candice Hern, and Karen Marie Moning have taken me to reader heaven.

The thing that makes me think of a book as my favorite is the answer to this question: Did I enjoy this enough to reread it? If the answer is yes, then the number of rereads puts it higher on my list of favorites. 🙂 In no particular order they are: Ashes in the Wind, Brighter Than the Sun, Three Fates, A Rose in Winter, Worth Any Price, The Gift, London’s Perfect Scoundrel: Lessons in Love, Betrothal, and Romancing Mister Bridgerton.
Brighter Than the Sun (An Avon Romantic Treasure)
Of course no fairy tale would be a fairy tale without a dastardly plot by an evil stepmother, however there’s really not any of that here. I do have a stepmonster, but she really doesn’t affect my reading habits (besides my disdain of her constant reading of US Weekly). After so many years as a reader of many things there are things that do tend to hurt my reading experience.
A Rose in Winter
Historical heroines who act completely out of time period, pretentious dialogue, and through and through bodice ripper sort of material where the woman is a simpering fool and the man is so out there Alpha-male that he never admits his love in the book. But luckily I have run across very few of these, of which I count myself lucky. 🙂

It is my hope for a happily ever after reading new and steamy books for many, many years to come.
