Book CoverAsh’s review of Warrior (The Blades of the Rose, Book 1) by Zoe Archer
Paranormal Romance released by Zebra 07 Sep 10

After reading Warrior, Zoe Archer has become a must read for me.  I loved everything about it and I hate that the next book is not out already.

Gabriel and Thalia are two characters that I couldn’t get enough of. Gabriel is just an awesome hero and I want him for myself. He is one of a kind, and I love him. My first thought of him is that he’s just like Indiana Jones, without the whole switching-women-like-underwear thing.

There is never a doubt that he wants Thalia for the long run. Thalia is another great addition to the book. My biggest issue with historical books is that I can’t stand women from those time periods. Thalia, however, is not a prim and proper lady. She will get down and dirty as well as any man, and she is not ashamed of it. She is someone I would want as a friend. Watching these two fall in love is almost beautiful in that it isn’t all about sex or danger bringing them together. While there is certainly both of those things, you just know that they are meant to be.

Magic plays a very important role, but it’s not shoved in your face. Thalia and Gabriel are racing to protect a magical artifact, but there isn’t much active magic going on. It’s not packed full of spells, but the amount is just enough for the story.

The same goes for the bad guys. They could have easily become the typical group out to destroy the world, but again Zoe Archer proves she knows how to create a character that is just right.

The setting for Warrior is mostly Mongolia. I am pretty sure this is the first book I have read set there, and Zoe Archer made me feel like I was there. I could see it all in my mind perfectly. It has as much of a presence as anything else. I truly felt like I was going on an adventure. It’s the perfect blend of magic, danger, and romance.

This is a must read for anyone looking for a fun, exciting tale of love and adventure.

Summary:

IN HOT PURSUIT…

The vicious attack Capt. Gabriel Huntley witnesses in a dark alley sparks a chain of events that will take him to the ends of the Earth and beyond—where what is real and what is imagined become terribly confused. And frankly, Huntley couldn’t be more pleased. Intrigue, danger, and a beautiful woman in distress—just what he needs.

IN HOTTER WATER…

Raised thousands of miles from England, Thalia Burgess is no typical Victorian lady. A good thing, because a proper lady would have no hope of recovering the priceless magical artifact Thalia is after. Huntley’s assistance might come in handy, though she has to keep him in the dark. But this distractingly handsome soldier isn’t easy to deceive…
