Warrior's ReleaseSandy M’s review of Warrior’s Release by Tea Trelawny
Paranormal Time Travel Romance ebook published by Ellora’s Cave 1 Jun 09

This is my first book by Tea Trelawny, and I have to say it’s not going to be my last. I know I requested to review this book because of the paranormal aspect, but there is so much more to it, several layers to the story that make it more interesting and intriguing characters that make it a darned good read.

First there’s the story of Kian and Alderette, a newly married 12th century Welsh couple who have yet to consummate their marriage. Kian was called to battle immediately after their vows were said, and now three days later he’s home to claim his wife. Before their final pleasure can be had, however, Kian’s enemy has breeched their home, killing Alderette in her marriage bed, leaving Kian to exact revenge. During this last battle as a storm rages, lightning strikes and his spirit is imprisoned in his sword for the next eight hundred years.

Present day finds Collin and Gwen coming together again when their work brings them to Caer Dyas castle in Wales. Four years previously they’d had a week-long affair before Collin shipped out to Iraq. But he left without saying goodbye, leaving Gwen alone with her love and in misery, something she can’t forget nor forgive. But seeing Collin again is more difficult than she thought it would be, the man still holds her heart. However, there’s just one thing that even her heart can’t get around.

Suffering injuries  in a suicide bombing during the war, Collin’s life has changed dramatically since he left Gwen years before. He is now impotent, the only reason he won’t try to pick up where they left off, and he can now see and communicate with spirits, a reason he knows Gwen will not want what they had before. If he can only prove to her that this new ability of his is real, perhaps they can have something after all.

During a storm when Collin picks up the Sword of Kian, which has called to him more than once, lightning once again strikes, this time throwing the medival warrior into Collin’s mind and body. Besides learning the exact truth of what happened to Kian and his wife centuries before, Collin’s body also benefits from being possessed by a man as virile as Kian. Loving Gwen is something Collin never thought to experience ever again.

Rediscovering each other amid all the paranormal activities afoot in the castle is nearly overshadowed with the discovery of another spirit in residence, this one malevolent in nature. Gwen is forced to finally believe when seeing such things for herself, and she and Collin must work together to bring peace to all of them, ghosts included.

I enjoyed this story mostly because it’s so different from anything I’ve read before. I don’t normally read ghost stories, romance or not, but this one with its many layers in the storyline may just change my mind on that score. I liked the characters, including Collin’s twin siblings who help in his ghostbusting.

Ms. Trelawny does a good job all around in this book, and I definitely would like to read more of her stories. She’s a new author to keep an eye on.

Summary:

A medieval warrior returns from battle with one thought—to bed his bride. But on the brink of consummation, lightning strikes, imprisoning his lusty spirit in his own sword.

Eight centuries later, another lightning bolt releases him into modern-day war vet Collin Morgan. The warrior’s hot blood not only cures Collin’s war-induced impotence, it drives him to bed his former lover Gwen Gardner when they meet by chance at the medieval castle.

Collin broke Gwen’s heart years ago and she resists his spirited seductions—at first. But when electrical storms give the ghost command of his body, Collin becomes a tantalizing seducer whose new techniques stir Gwen’s desires beyond her control. She surrenders her body and her heart.

But the warrior’s spirit is not the only one haunting the castle, and when this new danger threatens, whose soul will survive?
