Ing :X oops. Er, maybe you’ll like it? I actually haven’t talked to anyone else about the book, but… it was not for me. Sad. I really wanted to like Sophia. And usually I enjoy the Gray type characters… you’ll have to let me know what you think when you read it!

Oh man Lime…was really hoping you’d have nothing but good things to say about this book. I haven’t picked it up since there was mixed reviews on Amazon so wanted to hold off and get your thoughts. The excerpt at the back of GOTH sounded so promising. Will have to hold off and get this at a UBS instead of brand spanking new.

Sybs, I kept telling you to read this book! I’m very curious as to what your reaction would/will be! I ended up liking Sophia in GoTH… here.. meh.

Trish- thanks for commenting! i think my tolerance for that was just lower (I guess I have suspended belief for other things.) I haven’t gotten A Lady of Persuasion yet – so you’ll have to tell me how it is

I had some of the same issues with this book as you did, limecello. I didn’t hate or even dislike Sophia, but nor did I particularly like her. I was, however, a bit taken aback at how often and easily she lied. And I also was unsure what drew Gray to her other than the obvious fact that she was beautiful. I liked Gray better than you did – he didn’t come across as “smarmy” to me, just opportunistic. I think the author was going for a hero and heroine who are both deeply flawed and who have made serious mistakes and who are not what they seem on the surface, with mixed results. I also found the pace a bit plodding in places. Bottom line, I liked it better than you did, but it is not my favorite book by this author. I just picked up A LADY OF PERSUASION today and I will be reading it as soon as I finish Liz Carlyle’s latest (which I’m loving).

Hmm…I do like books about sea journeys (I choose to ignore the obvious hygienic inaccuracies), but I have a hard time getting past unlikable heroines.

I read Werestag, and it was all right, but GotH sounds more like my type of book than this one. I’ll probably check it out one of these days.
