I seem to be seeing a lot of Regency romance around blogs lately. I have to confess that I have yet to read one. Maybe it's time I got started?

Hi Maered! Thank you for putting a word in for The Notorious Lord. I loved writing the archaeology background for that one - and the hero, Cory Newlyn, was one of my favourites. I LOVED him. I'd still be happy to run off with him now

Have just heard that The Undoing of a Lady has hit the Bookscan chart this week so thank you all for coming to chat and celebrate with me!

Hi Martha! Well yes, I do have quie a tight writing schedule! But the thing about trilogies is that all the work has gone in upfront starting about 2 years before so by the time it comes out it feels as though it's been going on for ever! Which is probably why I won't get the chance any time soon to write my paranormal ideas. I had an idea for a book featuring angels after seeing a stone carving at a historic house and I would love love love to write a time travel book.

Maureen, so glad you like the name! It's actually from Shakespeare but it seemed appropriate for my rather foolish village squire, Sir Montague Fortune!

Thanks so much, Christine! I'm so pleased that you liked books 1 and 2 and I hope book 3 lives up to them for you!

Hi Nicola!
I've read the first two novels in your Brides of Fortune series and really enjoyed them. I can't wait to read The Undoing of a Lady... I'm hoping to get to the bookstore for it very soon!

I wanted to echo everyone's sentiments on how beautiful the book covers are. I was instantly drawn to the cover of The Confessions of a Duchess in Target one day and bought it on a whim. I'm so glad I did.

Your upcoming novel set in London and the Arctic sounds wonderful. Your lead characters sound like a fascinating combination. I'm looking forward to it!

Please don't enter me in the giveaway as I already have the first two books. :)

Hi Nicola - thanks for a great interview and good excerpts! I have read several of your older books! I'll have to be on the look out for this trilogy as well as the upcoming Novellas. Sounds like you stay BUSY! I like how you get ideas from contemporary items. Do you have a particular paranormal theme/creature in mind?

Hi Quilt Lady! Thank you - I'm glad you liked the interview! Yes, I do quite a bit of research for my books and I enjoy it very much - in fact I wish I had more time for it. With the general Regency background I have built up a level of knowledge that means I'm not always having to check with the reference books but for anything specialised, like my current manuscript set in the Arctic, I have to do a lot of reading. I find reading and researching one of the best ways to get new story ideas. I'm just back from a research trip and my ideas book is bulging!

Hi Pam! Thank you so much for dropping in. By gentle paranormal I suppose I mean timeslip and angels/fairies and that sort of thing. sadly there's not much of a market at all in the UK for anything in that style but that won't stop me trying when the time is right!

Hi Kristena! Thank you - I'm very happy you enjoyed The Penniless Bride! I loved researching the background to that book because the history of the chimney sweeps and all their traditions and language was so different and interesting. Plus I think it was almost a fairy story in a way and I loved that aspect of it.

Hi Kim! Thank you for dropping in and I hope you enjoy The Undoing of a Lady! Lizzie, the heroine, sails pretty close to the wind I think, but hopefully I have shown the demons that are driving her. And I loved Nat, the hero, for hanging on in there is such a steadfast way. Now that the books are out there I can say that I loved writing them all though during the process I probably wouldn'y have been so fond of them. I do find writing series very difficult!

Great interview, Nicola. I've enjoyed many of your books and looking forward to reading this series, and more about Lizzie. I like the idea of the one in the Arctic and an explorer, will be watching for more on that one.

If you do try paranormal, what do you consider "gentle" paranormal?

Hi Nicola, great interview! Your Brides of Fortune trilogy sounds like a fantastic read. I don't think I have had the pleasure of reading any of your books so far. So many authors, and so little time. Do you have to do a lot of research for your books and do you enjoy that part of the writing process?

Thanks so much for all the comments! Crystal, Linda, I'm so pleased you liked the extracts. Flip, thank you - it's great to know that you like my writing. I really appreciate people letting me know so that I don't feel as though I am slaving away in a vacuum!

Yes, I thought that the questions were interesting too, Margaret. They really made me think, particularly the one about flowers or candy! I'm glad that Cromarty has other fans. I thought it was a fascinating place because there was a real sense that if you strolled down one of those tiny streets in the fishermen's quarters you would emerge in the eighteenth century! I love places like that. So inspiring!

That's an interesting point about not being able to see a character's face, Kristina. I imagine that we all visualise heroes and heroines differently and it's nice to be able to imagine what they look like for ourselves. I think I've been very lucky with the Brides of Fortune covers. They are all so beautiful and accurate as well! I've had some classic ones where the description in the book is for a dark heroine and the cover shows a blonde!

Flip, thank you – it’s great to know that you like my writing. I really appreciate people letting me know so that I don’t feel as though I am slaving away in a vacuum!

Yes, I thought that the questions were interesting too, Margaret. They really made me think, particularly the one about flowers or candy! I’m glad that Cromarty has other fans. I thought it was a fascinating place because there was a real sense that if you strolled down one of those tiny streets in the fishermen’s quarters you would emerge in the eighteenth century! I love places like that. So inspiring!

That’s an interesting point about not being able to see a character’s face, Kristina. I imagine that we all visualise heroes and heroines differently and it’s nice to be able to imagine what they look like for ourselves. I think I’ve been very lucky with the Brides of Fortune covers. They are all so beautiful and accurate as well! I’ve had some classic ones where the description in the book is for a dark heroine and the cover shows a blonde!

Great interview. Loved the last two sets of lightning round questions.... especially the answer to the favorite curse question! I'm also intrigued by the differenced between book covers in different countries. I'm always amazed by some of the covers in Russia and Eastern Europe, a lot of times they seem super trashy compared to those you might see on shelves in the US and UK. Personally, I like understated covers - and would rather not see a character's face. I don't mind ones that depict their back or side view, but I'd rather not see the character. I'd much prefer to visual the character in my own way (especially since many times the characters on the cover look nothing like the way they've been described).
